Mixamo has made faceplus free for now.
https://www.mixamo.com/mystuff/downloads?source=faceplus

Interesting that it works with Mobu. :D
I think RL should definitely create a plugin for Iclone. This is a webcam based face mocap that's free.
By mtakerkart - 11 Years Ago
The probleme for me is that it doesn't works with the free Unity 5, only with the 4th version.
What is Mobu ?

For the facial mocap , it's coming. This is what Realtimer from Reallusion said on DAZ forum about my questions:
Hey Everyone,

For facial mocap, Yes. That will be a feature in iClone 6 pretty soon. Right now we are already working with Microsoft’s updated Kinect SDK, and also Intel’s PrimeSense to see how we can integrate them with iClone for facial mocap. (I’ll show you guys some sneak previews once I’ve got some cool videos at hand) For the FBX facial mocap, the issue that we normally have is that there are so many characters with different facial rigging, and they all have to be standardized in order to be used inside iClone’s Universal Avatar system. That is why we have 3DXchange, in order to covert them to iClone-ready characters. So naturally FBX is the direction that we want to go in, but there are many things and standards we need to hammer out first.

A Timeline Curve editor (animation graph editor) is a feature that high-end applications like Maya always have. They are complicated, you need to know what you are doing, and they give you beautifully detailed control over every little bit of your animation… I can see why some masochists might want it. Haaa! j/k It shouldn’t be to hard to implement into iClone, but the truth is that we have so much on our plate right now that it would have to come later. Another thing is——the vision and direction that we have for iClone.

Since its inception iClone has always been about making real-time animations in a smooth and organic way. Allowing literally anyone to create quick and decent looking animations in no time at all without the need for vast training, experience or effort. This has always been the dream for iClone, and we are always looking into the future to newer technology that can allow us break down the barriers between animation and the human interface. You can tell that we are slowly inching towards that dream. Now if we implement a Timeline Curve Editor, it sort of defeats the purpose of iClone’s organic animation creation, and it simply bunches us with all the other professional tools out there. I am not saying that it would not enhance iClone, it would, but we are trying to go in a different direction >>> we are trying to create an animation system that will allow people to organically create animations, and later seamlessly blend 2, 3 or more animations together. Just like the MixMoves system we originally built, but something that can be used for almost any type of motion. Now throw in this capability for mocap generated animations, and we are really cooking——- For example, at the moment we are working to develop an automatic locomotion system that will calculate your character’s steps by taking into consideration speed, distance, length of limbs, tempo of animation, style of animation, terrain and others. A system that will automatically calculate and create everything for you without the need to actually go into each X,Y,Z axis for rotation and translation in order to get the proper transition curve. Our belief is that computer processors are getting faster and cheaper, and we want to help you exploit that. So let the machine do all the work! Enough with the old-school way of manually having to create everything…. AMEN? grin (I should have been a preacher)

So you see what we are trying to do right?
Eventually, we will have to add a timeline curve editor. It makes sense to do so. But its not going to happen just right this quarter. =)

The current version for Unity 4.x is free and dead. There is no more developement. They are putting their resources into Mixamo. The Motion Builder version is no longer available.

ok, i get it, they don't post here because they don't want me to debate them.

sliding feet highlights to the world I'm a noob. That defeats the purpose of making animation easy enough for a new user to look good. You don't look good with sliding feet and twitching moves!! :pinch:

you can be innovative in how you make the curve editor, just because only high end animation softwares have them, does not mean you have to make it exactly like them.

Focus on core principles and steal them, don't copy them :p

Reallusion should know by now I love them very much, but they also know I will debate them in a heartbeat if I saw something I didn't agree with!

noob is a student, not a mental handicap! :pinch:

Mobu : Motion Builder

i've been trying to tell you for the longest that they are nice people, they are just sticking to a game plan!

On the same hand, i don't want to have to exist in tricycle mode forever! :pinch:

The moral of "MY" story as the "MODEL NOOB" is that Iclone did an excellent job of introducing me to animation, after I've learned the basics in iclone.....it should not be a disposable tool, but a tool that comes with me as I move on to bigger more pro level tools

Not having tools to make clean pro looking animations ....means being disposable, don't go there! I want you to grow with me, Iclone should be an active tool in my collection no matter what other tools or skills i have! :pinch:

some things in the bigger software are just redundant and time consuming, iclone fills that gap after I learn the basics! Time is more valuable than anything, you can't replace it!
By planetstardragon - 11 Years Ago
noobs and pros can peacefully co-exist in one software ....that's what colleges are built on, professors and students ...

Look at me and swoop for example, we get along perfectly! Never had a fight! ♥

I wonder if he speaks for the CEO of Reallusion? Is that the vision of the owner of RL?

They could atleast fix the inaccurate relation of the timeline and the frames rendered by Iclone to harddisk. Those two just don't relate. :D

I think because I didn't ask a question about that. Only curve and facialmocap.

I wonder if he speaks for the CEO of Reallusion?

He said in a previous post:
Reallusion is really making huge strides in the industry—- I say this not just because I am part of the company, but because I am in the middle of everything that is happening here. It is very exciting to see what our company has achieved in such a short time, and it is even more exciting to see what is coming in the future…

Hey everyone! This is Jeanette from Mixamo - I just wanted to chime in that the Motion Builder version of Face Plus is not being removed - that was a miscommunication on our part!

We'll continue to provide and support both these plugins:
Face Plus for Unity 4.3.x - 4.6.x
Face Plus for Motion Builder 2014

What we are not doing is building a version for Unity 5 or MoBu 2015 at this time. We really want to gather some feedback about the usage of Face Plus though so if you're a Face Plus user, feel free to take the product survey! If we have a lot of interest we may update the software!

That indeed doesn't make any sense at all. It's a pity that RealTimer doesn't debate here, as we could tell him something. iClone is a lot of things, but to organically create animations is completely different from putting prerecorded clips together. For example, if you want believable hand gestures with dialog you need to do a lot of chopping up and recombining of those clips. I don't mind doing that but it's a far crying from "letting the machine do all the work".

It's also kind of stupid and lacks insight in the basics of animation to just dismiss keyframe animation as on old way of doing things. If you want to have unique motions or motions for a special purpose you will need to use keyframes. The curve editor is just a helpful tool for that.

It is also incorrect that only high-end application have curve editors. As I have pointed out many times, Poser has had it for years. And so has Source Filmmaker, which is not a high-end tool, although it has many useful timeline features. The claim that it would make iClone too complicated doesn't hold. There is always the option not to use it.

So Peter, who is this RealTimer dude? He has me worried.

By mtakerkart - 11 Years Ago
@Animagic
I understand your frustation Animagic .For my case, I was like you months ago But today with the new technology of mocap , I mean tech with no camera ,it will be more efficient to make real mocap as keyframing for my realistic anime pipeline because actors can interact with real object easily beside keyframing ; For cartoonish anime I know it's another story , I will use the akeytsu tool for that.
I think Reallusion will focus on the efficient blending motion du to the new mocap , it looks like making a sort of "physics" realistic characters moves depending of the environment. You have a generic moves in bank and the "physics" engine behave with your props.
I think it's the future of characters animation.

@Jeanette
I did the survey :-)
By mtakerkart - 11 Years Ago
I think Reallusion tend to be like this prototype of animation. There's no keyframe, only a character engine interacting with environment. This can be apply for fight , taking heavy things, etc...

Indeed. Sounded like an Andy Serkis moment.
"they(animators) create key frames and the computer will join up the dots"
:D

I admire the daz posters enthusiasm who ever he is. But mocap and keyframe must work hand in hand. Mocap alone will not give you good animation. Alot of clean and tweaking are involved. Sometimes the mocap is just for reference and the animation is 90% keyframed.

Extremely talented animators accomplish this with the "old way of doing things". :D

I said it before and I'll say it again, animation...IS the HEART of animation!!

i can send a render to, indigo now...check
I can composite fancy particle effects and use stuff like hitfilm, sony and fusion ....check
I can make a ton of custom characters.....check
I can do fancy textures with substance....check
I can import and export models to create original looks...check
I can fix my animations to look smooth and realistic in Iclone "Animation" software.......:pinch:

i have 100 problems, it should be 99!!! :pinch:

Extremely talented animators have just started "trickling down" the ICLONE lane.:D

RL still needs to hold its base with a few black boxes. Without these Blackboxes, even the extremely talented animators will not take a cursory glance at ICLONE.

Nothing like anticipating the issues and pre-stocking with the probable solutions in a MARS EXPLORER on its journey to MARS. It's a high for a scientist.

Blending two poses and motions perfectly and automatically is no less excitement for a programmer.

The Game engines have started doing it. ICLONE can not just watch from the sideline.

Average Joe / Majority in ICLONE will mess up the motion / pose with a Curve editor than fix it. It's easy to be myopic and lose the sight of the macro view while trying to fix the points on a curve editor.

The curve editor is welcome. But like Indigo, the majority of ICLONERS will not be able to take the advantage of it for a long time.

The pipeline to Motion Builder is available anyway ! People can try till the time a curve editor is not available in ICLONE.

noobs and pros can co-exist in iclone - like another post said, just don't use it if you don't know how. nothing is being replaced. But no one should grow out of iclone. noobs don't stay noobs forever, i'm one of the rare few! #noob4life

Iclone should be that toy the pros keep secret when they want to have fun animating again, get work done quick, and not waste time with those insanely tedious high end softwares. Humans are not going to evolve a 3rd leg or arm any time soon, that covers plenty of animation work!
the animation tools in iclone need to be that 1-inch punch to the 3D industry, Right to the heart, no mercy! everything else, is 2nd on the list.

when the animator walks into the room, everyone steps back, imagine the look on their face when he pulls out iclone! Then he tells everyone, relax, I can export this to fbx for the main system, this is just faster and i can do this from my laptop....we can do this by the swimming pool if you want, I'm saving you money, now smile for the kinect!

Btw regarding faceplus. I think you had this on subscription?
I haven't checked the survey but if its there disregard my comment.
Anyway I'm not for subscription, especially one where the software would just stop working when the subscription expires.
I'm sure you can adapt a more user friendly business model like Modo Indie. They offer both subscription for people that want to get updates instantly and perpetual where users are only given point updates. I understand mixamo mocap is subscription because its offering content but software on subs is no go for me.

In your dramatic scene, you are forgetting that those animators are not going to expose their so called secret weapon to other animators or clients. What's easy for you is also easy for others. And clients do not pay for easy jobs. Next time you know the client will buy ICLONE 6 from the DAZ store on a bargain !

So don't include such scenes in your script.

And kindly tell the regular ICLONE users how they can run ICLONE 6 smoothly on their laptops.

Also, I would like to point out that RL wants iClone to be the basis for game design as one application. That is not a hobbyist or noob thingy and wouldn't work if the animation is crummy.

I don't know if Mr RealTimer has ever done anything worthwhile, but I have been an iClone user for almost nine years. I don't think frustrating long-time customers is a good business decision.

I usually leave the ranting to others, but like I said, I'm worried...

@prabhatM,
Are you well adverse using CSharp... for Gaming? :Whistling:

I am NOT into gaming. I am dabbling with the game engines for developing an Industrial Train Simulation for Drivers' Training Programme where I could develop the Open World on demand. The Proof of Concept is - "Can we lay the tracks based on the Open Street kind of Data ?" Can we create passing by trains based on data e.g. WDM 2 / WAG 9 etc and number of boggies 20 / 12 and boggies type etc.....Can we create vegetation type based on GIS data ? Can we create the landscape on the fly based on DEM data ? I usually attack on the conceptual needs like this. Once I get answers to these crucial things... and create the cost advantage, I start focusing on the programming. Then only I will decide the programming language I need to learn for the project.

Besides that I do not learn a language and then work on a Project. I decide the project and then check the need. If C# is needed for any project, then I will focus on that.

A friend watched me struggling with a Word file and wondered how could I be so bad with MSWORD while I do such complex programming for both back end and front end ! I said " why learn something when you can hire somebody easily ?"

I seek, focus and learn only the "DIFFERENTIAL" part in my domain that can make the difference.

Somebody asked for an insane amount of money to do a Title track for my serial, so I started composing my own ....first time in my life just a few months back..... Now I am doing atleast one new song each for all my episodes.

I think I have started getting comfortable in doing the tracks with complex layering and MIDI programming.

Here's a draft one that I did just 2 days back for my next series : https://soundcloud.com/prabhat-mohanty/agent-toofan-title-track
