I'm starting this thread in an effort to share ideas - I'm thinking of it like a pinterest thread...pic and maybe a blurb of why you like it.
It will give a chance for users to share things they would like to see developed...and a place that will help inspire developers with new ideas for products.
I'm learning this stuff from a developer point myself, and being half noob and half developer ( i love that btw!! ) it will help give me things to look at to study and learn how to make, and when i finally make one that isn't crosseyed ...I'll put it in the shop! lol :w00t:
anyways....this is the pic that inspired me to start this thread! I love this, sexy, elegant with a touch of royalty!

Do we have anybody in our community who could do modelling with such flair ?
Note : I do not mean quality perfect 3d Model. I mean the characterisation.

I believe so, I've seen some amazing works in the marketplace ....
It's really not very hard to do actually, tedious yes, hard no.....once you watch enough tutorials on the topic....it makes more sense :)
the key concept is to use the same base mesh to cut new clothing parts from, i enjoy this part of 3D actually...it's quite relaxing. So i don't do it so much because i need to have that model, but because it's a fun thing to do for a change from my regular routines. This part is creative ...doing the retopology is technical and not as fun.

It's not tedious or hard. For a natural and talented artist, this comes naturally and the very first 5 minutes of modeling will show that flair like Mark's very first second of beautiful setting and camera work.
============
It would be interesting to know the quote from the artists in the community for the Man with camera Model which should be ready to be animated in ICLONE. ( Though I am not sure if we can get such expressive emotion in ICLONE.)
What would be total hours needed and the hourly rate for such commissioned work ?

that's me :) I understand the technical, i just don't enjoy it....I always gravitate to the artistry of things - it's a matter of having a childs imagination i suppose

Technically making this final product is a 3-4 man job although, you do have people that do it all.....but doing it all ..and being an artist that captures the nuance will make a difference. A Techie will clone it, an artist will give it life and personality.
the modeler - artist - who gives you the high poly mesh The retopologist - techie - who makes the mesh low poly for animation The uv and texture guy - techie and artist - who uses substance or pbr painting (uv is math, colors are psychology ) the rigger - techie and artist who gets the weightmaps right - placing the bones is easy...the art is in the weightmapping. - although that can be classified as technical because you are cloning how something natural would move - thats more a science than creative. There is space to be creative with it though....like a wiggling mustache rig with a jiggling tummy bone with the right spring weight to make it funny...not necessarily natural.
and for arguments sake ....when I refer to a techie, it's a person that looks for precision....when I refer to a creative...it's a person that looks to evoke emotion.
people look at this classification as a bad thing, but it's not...it's understanding workflow .... One is math, the other is psychology.

that character looks simple, but far from it, have to get the angles right on the mesh to get those definitions that smooth with the toon shading. and look at the detail in his pants.. I like the stylized look too, that's the type of character you see in toy story :)

Haha reminds me of my old boss! A veteran film maker and cinematographer. Wonder who created this model.

planetstardragon (3/11/2015) .... and look at the detail in his pants..
The details and creases are easy to get with Marvellous Designer. They come naturally. You don't have to sculpt. Just for example, doing a realistic saree is difficult and time consuming because of the contours, folds and creases. But I "wrapped a piece of cloth ( a long rectangle ) the way women actually wear a 9 yard saree and I got all the folds / fall and creases nicely ! And all of it in just 15-20 minutes !!
In the picture below, a piece of cloth or a rectangle is actually wrapped around her waist, pinned at the waist for pleats and then wrapped around her chest and then thrown over the shoulder. The shape of saree is morphable so that it can change for a look of a conservative housewife to a sexy fashion model or a sexy secy from the same model/design. And yes, inside DAZ. Later you can take it to ICLONE if you wish. Perhaps the physics enabled saree would make it look great in ICLONE. ( BIGBOSS may take note. )

If this message was directed at me....
I design characters for my episodic animated serials, NOT for games. When I take up the Game designs, I will develop game-ready characters as well.
I do not do assignments for others or try to sell models. I only do things for my own consumption. When I decide to develop games, I will do things accordingly.
Do I fear UV or retopology ? Nah ! I will do all that if my project demands. I start thinking how to cross only when I reach the bridge. Else, my mind is always blank. Like it's now.

@prabbat - i really like that character :) - that's one thing I'm trying to learn now , how to wrap the cloth around a character. I've seen different techniques, like the one in the video i posted on this thread ....then there's modeling with softcloth physics - which seems simple and easy enough, but actually harder to do in practice - since you have no way to actually control how the physics drapes it.
you should also check out a post dragonskunk made a while back, he came up with an nice method of giving cartoon edges through the character mesh / textures, that might appeal to you...he was looking for a similar toon shading look you are.

You can see how it's truly draped around the character with a single piece. [ BTW she is the Logistic and Communication Expert in my Spy series. She flies helicopters on a mission and rescues her team mates. Speed thrills her. Otherwise she woks as an office assistant in an export firm and loves cooking. ]

You can also create a costume for a monk in this method.

happy to see you open up , you have nice ideas :)
I've been researching to make clothing like that for characters, I enjoy cultural Asian type clothing, from both india, and china.

I would love to see GENUINE Indian Subcontinent / Asian costumes on the ICLONE store. I hope talents like Bigboss and others take interest.

i'm thinking the godfather model can be made with a g3-5 and sculptris face mods - along with a good displacement map on the face to create the wrinkles ...RL sells a nice wedding suit that would work perfect for the clothes!
the abe hair ...I'm thinking I'll be able to emulate with my strand hair experiment and substance textures! :w00t: - the bad thing with strand hair is that it doesn't get along with the soft cloth engine, but for stagnant type hair ....i can add bones and springs for motion, and substance textures for bumps and displacements ..so that should be a fun experiment !! if it works, I can make beards like whoa! :w00t:
for the final fantasy look, a modded version of Reallusions Anime hair would be perfect! the rest is textures and lighting in indigo!
that goblin mechanic - looks like something I'd have to make using alchemy! lol sick model! maybe you can use the jimmy toon as a base to build something like that from!

playing with the substance textures on strand hair now , o boy! super responsive! :w00t:
not only can i change the shape with the displacement, each new uv type i add to it, makes another extreme change!! Much to invent here!! :w00t:
Note - strand hair is particle hair converted to polygons. and the model below is a mess, just a quick test to see how the strand hair reacted to the substance textures ...It's Alive!! :D
