My voice is not good right now for some reason.
I need to use a Text to Speech program to make a Narrator voice and possible other voices to run through Morphvox Pro.

You want good AND free???:P I found this: http://www.naturalreaders.com/, which works on-line. Now we just have to find a way to record it as a wave file. Anyone has any ideas?

Get a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack and plug it into the headphone and microphone sockets, making a loop and then open your audio recorder. Press record and play.

There are also ways to record, "What you hear." I've done it before, so that whatever goes to your speakers also goes to a recording application. I might have done it back in Vista, or even Windows XP. It varies by operating system, motherboard and soundcard (if you have one). In particular, pay attention to "Show Disabled Devices" so you can turn on the "Stereo Mix" device in your Recording devices. - Right-click on your speaker icon, select Recording Devices
- If you don't see Stereo Mix...
- Right-click in the panel and select, "Show Disabled Devices"
- Now you should be able to Enable it
Now in Audacity, you should be able to select "Stereo Mix" in lieu of a microphone or Line-in.

Audacity (free) lets you record "What you hear".
1. Menu Edit->Preferences
2. Select Devices
3. In the GroupBox "Recording" set Device = Primary Sound Capture Driver
4. Close the menu
5. Prepare the Audacity and the TTS SW
6. Start recording in Audacity
7. Start playing the TTS voice
8. When done, stop the recording and save in WAV

So far the only one I tried that sounded sort of reasonable costs about $500. Don't think I will go that route.
The Natural Readers has a version for $69 but it sounds like a robot.
I am going to spend today trying to get my voice to sound a little better using Audacity and tomorrow I plan to purchase Magix as that is where I have been making the movie. I have the trial version and it was easy to set things up the way I wanted though the things in the scenes are not what I wanted entirely. The problem is I cannot put it on youtube to show you until I purchase it.
The Book of Ruth seems to be a different kind of movie for me to be making. The way I am doing it is a bit different.

Hi Ken,
I have Morphvox Pro too, it's a cool program even though their website is older than we are I think! hahaha!
I found that if you put different things in between words or sentences in Morphvox, like ' or ;; or ... it changes the way the voice reads the sentence before moving on to the next one. I've also changed some words that they couldn't pronounce right with what the word sounds like with pretty good results. Sometimes putting a capital letter in a word will make it chAnge the way it says too.
Anyways;
There are few good TTS voice programs out there but as you know they can be costly. However, you can purchase just a voice without the expensive software, I bought some years ago from Cepstral and from AT&T Natural Voices. I was looking for my email receipts for the price but I think they were only around $1o to $15. I used them in CrazyTalk 5 & 6 & 7, and have been playing around with them in iC5 & 6, Microsoft TTS voices are free, and they are getting better at how they sound, still not 100% human sounds though.
There is a little quirk I found when downloading the free TTS trial softwares, after you uninstall them, for some reason, they leave the voices behind in the folder they were installed in. I found I can use them in other software like Morphvox and they show up in the iClone text to speech voice list too I noticed. The best ones I've found so far were from IVONA. I can still use them, but... if you're going to use them in videos that get put up on YouTube you might want to buy a license for the voices or you could get in trouble.
Honestly, if you just keep recording your own voice and get used to how it sounds being played back to you, I think you'll find that you are the only one who doesn't like the way you sound, my radio announcer buddy taught me that. The more you practice the better it gets because you learn to just relax and let it go. Get silly and goofy making voices for different characters if you want, they may just sound better than you think. I'm getting my son, his wife to be and grandkids to help me do some dialogs as soon as I can get them to stop staring at me!
Try this software Audio Record Wizard for recording yourself and edit the pitch in Audacity to change it a little bit to help ease you along, write down the settings when you found a good one so you can repeat the process, and the better microphone you can get ahold of the better it'll be too!

I saw the TTS tab in Morphvox Pro but never figured out how to use it. I thought you had to make it a MP3 or WAV file to use it with that program.
I am older than the computer industry so I don't think it is that old.
I am still playing with MorphVox for now. I will try those other things when I get to it.
Right now I am looking at another potential problem. I am getting ready to post about it in a separate topic.

if you have access to a mac, their default tts's are pretty nice - it actually made it to a few big dance songs, and radiohead did a track with it! ^.^

I have been working on the voice thing and finishing up the movie to the part where the voices will begin.
I have also found out that after about 8 bottles of beer it really doesn't make any difference what my voice sounds like. I can't pay attention that long.... LOL
Actually, I am not drinking.
I do keep coming back to the Natural reader software but right now I don't have the $70 to buy the one that allows you to record the voices. I did manage to get it to sound a little better with some different punctuation.
I can see where this is going to be quite a long project. I have spent three days on the first 6 verses and still am not really satisfied with it. It is a different approach to the making or the movie though. Maybe this will be better.

In fact I had to google to discover why on this earth my new PC had no input recording devices...
Quite tricky to have to right-click onto a blank area inside the dialog box... damned Miscrosoft... :hehe:

I have been to that one several times and always seemed to get stuck with the part about talking to the computer.
I went back to it one more time and played with the speech rate and tone a little. I may be able to use it if I keep that up.
Thanks. And a big thanks to everyone who has stayed with me on this one. I may get through the trials yet. (If I can just get the videos back that I lost when I bought the new program.)

Not a big fan of text to speech myself.
Audacity is great to use for recording, but if you have the time and patience, sometimes you have to be a bit assertive, I suggest scouting for voice actors.
I wrote this thread a while back about casting actors. You do have to be assertive, some will not turn in lines at all, but it will be a huge standout from text to speech.
If you need a young male actor, contact me- I have a nice microphone that rarely gets used.

I've done enough work using my own voice that it no longer sounds weird to listen to myself. It's "just another voice" now. I'm not saying I'm great at it, but it doesn't creep me out. It's still hard, though, to do anything extreme. Shouting, moaning or groaning, and extreme emotions are hard. I still feel horribly self-conscious about stuff like that, especially if I'm not alone in the house. I can "emote," but my range isn't that great. I haven't done cartoon characters with weird voices. I learned a number of years ago that the best solution is "go for it." Don't hold back. When you do something half-way, that's when you get the bad results. But it's not always easy to put that into practice. If I write a script that calls for my character to cry, then I will probably have to find someone else to do the voice acting.

lol - slightly off topic ...but funny memory ...
there was another forum, that i 'care' about lol......it was a debate forum.....well one of my biggest, and of course most beloved adversaries of that forum got banned from another site .......the moderator of that forum had the courage to visit our 'un' moderated forum....considering how intense my debates got with my opposition on that forum, everyone's jaws dropped when I read that foreign administrator his rights for banning my debate opponent.... lmao.....unfortunately my opponent was so impressed, we hardly ever debated again, he grew to like me and didn't want to debate anymore....i say unfortunate because he was a brilliant adversary...( i still won, but at least he provided intellectual competition to sharpen my claws with lol )
I defend the rights of my opponents free speech, and well, mr foreign administrator would have been much safer and happier being banned from our forum, than the reading I gave him heh! :w00t:
