Hi iCloners,

I have just downloaded the trial and am looking forward to doing some animation. My only other 3D experience is some basic Blender modelling/physics.

The new iClone experience is confusing and frustrating for me. I've looked (for two days now) for some tutorials to get me going but have only found disconnected snippets of information that haven't really helped me to get going ... I guess I need a more holistic introduction.

Can anyone recommend me a how-to walk-through for noobs, including set and character creation and basic movement and facial expression. TTS would be great too. Nothing very deep, just a brief introduction to get me started.

Thanks in advance.

What have you tried and what do not work for?
Maybe you should specialize your question more, for better help ?

I don't have any specialized question - I can't even get going in iClone. I'll try to explain by using an analogy ...

There are entire series of tutorials, both written and video, for Blender. They start with the very basics - concepts/UI - and go all the way through, explaining different aspects of the program (in varying depth). Than, once a new user has a basic understanding of how Blender works he/she is able to find more in-depth tutorials. So far I have been unable to find anything comparable for iClone.

How would you suggest a total iClone noob to start learning?

Press the Help Icon in the right corner, there is the Program Guide

Also a good beginner Guide

it is for iC4 but the main principles are the same in IC5

Welcome to the Forum,

You'll find a lot of Video Tutorials by Reallusion & Forum Members.

However the question of "But where do I start?" still remains.

IMO, the best way to start (Others may differ), is to go through Stuckon3D's Free Video Tutorials, which cover iClone Basics. These are based on iClone 4, which don't include the many new Features in iC5.

Warlord's Purchase Tutorial Book also based on iC4 but with iC5 new Features added, goes into the basics in more depth, with his own Content provided for individual Project-based Tutorials.

Mark's advanced Free Tutorials cover specific "How do I do this" requests, in a User friendly manner.

66: :)

To start I'd grab one of the avatars and make it walk and run a bit. Then put him through some of the motions that come with iclone. Maybe change the outfit just to check out how that works. That would at least give you some idea of whats happening.

Then tie a couple of simple movements together to make a character dance or something. Just fool around and get a feel for the software. Pretty much like you did in Blender I imagine. :D

Can't hurt nothin' :w00t:

peterblood nailed it. That's a great place to start just to see what's going on when you invoke certain commands or motions. You can learn a lot just from those actions alone.

You also don't have to use everything in front of you right now. Use what you need and work on learning the fluff later.
