ok , here's the dilemma, I've been trying to make a profile for the bvh converter.

the bvh files i am trying to convert have 80 points.
the upper arm has 2 parts, the collar bone has 2 parts, the neck and chest are 1 part, etc...
to make things more complicated, the points are named 1 , 2 , 3, 4, etc.
I tried to make a profile using the /s command and this is what I came up with

Unknown Source
Position 0,0,0
FrameRate 60
Model5 <---> Head .
Model1 <---> LowerTorso .
Model7 <---> LCollar .
Model30 <---> RCollar .
Model4 <---> Neck .
Model3 <---> UpperTorso .
Model60 <---> RPelvis .
Model53 <---> LPelvis .
Model54 <---> LThigh .
Model61 <---> RThigh .
Model56 <---> LLowLeg .
Model58 <---> LFoot .
Model10 <---> LUpArm .
Model12 <---> LLowArm .
Model33 <---> RUpArm .
Model35 <---> RLowArm .
Model14 <---> LHand .
Model37 <---> RHand .
Model63 <---> RLowLeg .

but when I try to run it in the bvh converter, it crashes....Im not sure why or what I am doing wrong. I know the files need more tweaks but I'm just trying to see the basic results so far but I can't because the converter crashes. I am attaching the t - pose and hopefully someone can give me some insight on what I am doing wrong.

Just rename the txt part of the file to bvh.

Thanks

Ricky

You are missing the right foot.  I added the following:

     Model65 <---> RFoot .

and it now converts without crashing.  You may have to check if it is the correct bone...

zuijlen!!!

if this works you are my hero!! You wouldn't even begin to imagine how many hours I spent trying to fix that ..... I went through a ton of softwares, and finally tried it with the back end of the bvh converter, I gave up because i just couldn't spend any more time on it with so many other motions to convert and tweak!!

I'll give it a shot later!! if it works, I'll see if i can shoot you some samples of why Im so happy about it working !!!

I would definitely like to be somebody's hero, so I'll keep my fingers crossed... ;)

Come to think of it, I still am my wife's hero, I believe... :hehe:

I Just tried it, it didn't crash and it actually converted, but it did not convert correctly.

The Left panel had the character doing a cool little cha cha dance, and the Right panel looked like he was running away for his life, so apparently there's more to this :hehe:

Joe says he has to dig up the raw file, and we take it from there.

I still like trying every now and then, situations like these are often a good chance to learn more about how things work, and the raw file has to be re edited / truncated so it would have saved extra work, but its worth it.

I attached a Tai Chi Motion that I converted and tweaked from the CMU Library as a thanks for trying!! It's a quick tweak, it's not perfect and has a few glitches, but still a cool motion to have. This is where Joe helps a lot when things have glitches. but I still enjoyed the motion because its pretty accurate to real tai chi. so its a personal fav, glitches and all lol.

Peace

Ricky

Update - I started playing with the converter and profile a little more, the offsetting needs work , so something new to learn. this is tricky because you can't turn the model around to see clearly whats off. Plus I just got a batch of moves to review for the originals of this particular set, and possibly some new stuff!!

I wanted to share a few more moves from my cmu conversions, these also have glitches, these moves have not gone through the quality assurance that the packs at the store go through, and I did not spend much time tweaking them, I just adjusted the speeds to feel more natural. this is just me having fun sharing some stuff I converted from the cmu library. they are pretty decent and I enjoyed them glitches and all :hehe:

I was about to answer when I lost my connection, so I'll try again...

I was editing a profile the other day and I thought it would be best to line up a T-pose first. If that's not right, then nothing else will be either.  I find editing in just the converter almost impossible, so I do import in iClone as well, which allows you to turn the model.  RL also recommends to edit the profile in a text editor, which goes quicker than using the profile editor.

So the sequence is: edit and safe profile, reload, reconvert, save and import, and view in iClone.  It goes fairly quickly after a while, but the amount of tweaking needed is considerable...

One thing I noticed in the profile you posted compared to others is that usually RPelvis and LPelvis are not mapped. There are just entries like this:

    * RPelvis . .
    * LPelvis . .

I don't know if that makes any difference, but you could try.

hrmm, thanks for the tips, I'll try that - the text editor approach makes sense for speed sake, would have been even nicer if you could turn the model right in the bvh converter - maybe wishful (features ) thinking ?

I just gave it a quick conversion test, and what was supposed to be a drummer looked like someone giving birth, so this is going to take a few tries Im guessing, but at least its converting so there's hope! ( I think, not sure how im going to get his head out of his chest yet )

That and also make it sort of normal size... With the screen sizes we have nowadays, there is no reason to make the skeleton so tiny!  I always get confused with X, Y, and Z anyways, because each joint has its own orientation. So I actually use iClone to see which way to turn and how far I am off.  Now if we could type in values in iClone for X, Y, and Z of joints, we would have a gauge of the needed adjustment.

EDIT: Just read about the head, try adjusting the neck, I had a poor fellow's head backward!

this is the basic conversion, I think this drummer had a bit too much to drink, he looks a little twisted!!!

I was just thinking, it might be nice if we could save an adjustment to a profile right from Iclone , just load whatever you can convert in a tpose through converter with basic stats, then fix the T Pose in Iclone and update the profile with the New TPose in Iclone. This way you just skip the whole note pad process and no guess work, what you see is what you get in a profile.

Yeah that looks pretty serious...

I don't know if all skeletons can actually be converted, just by changing the profile.  I had a case once where the arm was floating slightly separated from the shoulder.  Very disconcerting, except of course for horror movies!
