I ‘am thinking of purchasing MorphVOX Pro to do my voice changes i.e. Monster voices in iClone. On their website they mention that it works in iClone

There are two points I could do with some advice on.

1. Is the program worth purchasing to do voice changes with?

2. Are there any tutorials to show how it works in iClone on YouTube Cricky loaded a video (The Old Grey Mare iClone Style with use of MorphVox for the Audio)

To give you an idea what I ‘am talking about I have put a clip on my YouTube site.

Use Free Audacity and do pitch shifting to get different voices. The generated voices will work nicely with your Monsters.

I use Audacity a lot. It's awesome and it's free. It has lots of different effects you and apply to your voice track.

i agree with the prabhatM and Doug, i'd try audacity first before spending money on morphVox -

audacity has this thing called a "Vst Enabler" http://web.audacityteam.org/vst/ - once you have that you should be able to find tons of free VST plugins that allow you to greatly expand your fx capabilities in audacity.

You dont need Vst enabler anymore. The latest version supports Vst. Just copy your dll into the plugin directory. But do not forget to scan the plugins in the preference menu.

ahhh, nice - that software does a lot for free - it's come a long way since the last time I used it. I already have a small pro collection of audio tools for my music, so I hardly use audacity anymore - but it's still impressive software! ( but I admit to still looking around at the free vst's to add to my arsenal lol - they are pretty amazing for free items also - especially the synthesizers!! )

I like Audacity noise reduction feature for my voice recording on Yeti condensor mic. I prefer it over Adobe audition for voice recording.

I agree with the other posters and would give Audacity a go first - but I can confirm that Morphvox is an excellent little bit of software which has the advantage of having numerous "preset" voices including a lot of additional free ones you can download

Morphvox ads indicate change to female voice.

No way, unless you are already half woman.

I bought it, didn't work and the guy refunded my money.

I didn't expect that, a for real good guy that isn't a money grubber. :P

the scriptvox software from them looked interesting to me - it looks like a convenient way to do a lot of quick script work using TTS and the effects.

It has the ez buttons for audio lol - imo ez buttons are important for creative people who want to spend more time drafting up a story than getting tied up into technical stuff....

Software like morphvox and scriptvox do just that - audacity does it for free- but it's not as ez / fast as morphvox / scriptvox

I use the 3 neospeech english voices for previz stuff for sure.

Neospeech has a new voice out called James

Thank you for contacting NeoSpeech.

Here is email I got..

----------------------------------

I would be happy to provide you with the James voice.

For security reasons, in order to purchase the James voice you must provide me with a scanned copy of your government issued ID. This is because the James voice is so new.

The cost of the James voice is $69.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

------------------------

Are you kidding me, they want a scanned copy of my government ID.

Are these guys off some other planet or something?

Just asking for the ID sends up the big alarm flag for me. I don't know why, but it doesn't make any sense to me. I paid less for 3 voices from same people. Guess I can't just buy something from them and go on. The current pack only works in iclone 32bit. If iclone quits 32 bit version " the voices definitely will not work". Been there done that.

So, I will not be eager to buy voices again that are 32bit only. I will want 64bit assurances.

Guess I will go shopping for some voices very soon.

I like using the computer voices. It doesn't matter to me they aren't human sounding. The avatars are just about as human as the voices. So, why do we have cartoon avatars and people expect human voice overs. We can probably blame that on Disney. They have spoiled viewers with the voices of high paid actors.

ok, so I had to test this......YOUR post is to blame for this video Rampart!!! I'm NOT half woman!

I guess why TTS companies are so particular about licensing because the sw can be deployed at a massive scale like in telecom and automobile industries. They probably would like to know and feel reassured that you are not using at such massive scale for less than hundred dollars.

Thank you to everyone for there input I for the price I will purchase morphvox / scriptvox and take it from here.

Thank you to all.

With screaming bee's Morphvox pro you get Timbre control which you don't in audacity.

By drewstwos - 12 Years Ago
HI George
I have MorphVox Pro. It is fine if all you want to do is just disguise your voice a bit BUT...... In my present project I need two distinctly different voices. One mine and the other the avatars. I recorded them with MV and though they are 'different' they are still very recognisable as mine. Also with Audacity which I now use in preference to MV ,unless you really alter pitch and tempo etc the result is a bit disappointing. So from my point of view I would and will be using a real person to do the dialogue. Besides which the avatar needs a regional accent which neither MV nor Audacity can do.
Hope this helps.

To make your voice sound different, MODULATE differently. For example, if you talk excitedly in your normal self, record that for one character. Then record another just opposite way, deliver your dialogues with long pauses.

Also "copy" different favourite stars with distinct personalities.

Once done, start voice processing with different textures. Use different pitches. Give one file extra bass. Heighten treble in another.

Suddenly, you will have 4 different voices, distinct from each other with Audacity / Voice changing softwares.

Trust me, recording voices is no less exciting than regular animation.

Another quick tip. Use different microphones from 1$ cheap microphones to 400$ mic for different characters to get different voice textures. Infact, for voice recording, there is no good or bad mic. Each one offers different voice texture, provided you can take care of the background noise effectively.

Then record in an open room, in a small booth, inside your cupboard, inside the quilt, from 2" distance with a Pop filter, at a 8" distance without Pop filter......experiment all just to get a different voice texture. Use USB mic for ease of use.

Just remember MODULATION is the key.

I agree with DT on many angles.  Morphvox Pro still, if not tuned correctly, gives a compressive ringing that you get with over-compressed audio sometimes.

You can filter it out, but the best situation is to use Audacity with Screaming Bee drivers as the processor. Shown on the Screaming Bee site.

What you do NOT get with Audacity is the TIMBRE control. Without this, youre very very limited.

Morphvox Pro CAN give you many voices. Most of the better ones are the lower tones from your own or, morphed tones IN your own tone level.

Heres the studio interface. Look at the middle section. Its THERE that the success and failure of the morph exists. The Timbre Shift and Strength. There are many presets on the left, you'll find that your own voice sounds noting like the ones demo'd but they are a rough guide and after selecting one you can then change it by moving the sliders.

Headphones are recommended of the feedback is miserable and cancelling out BG noises also cuts vocal quality down too. For the price, and then to record straight into Audacity and THEN tweak and refine is a good starts tool to getting something alternate for your characters. it takes time to refine and you mustn't be afraid to sound like a little elf or a gnome on a bad hair day if you want the best effects.  Theatrics is the name of the game. :hehe::cool::w00t:;)

I spent some time playing with the software yesterday - to really make the voice sound different ...you need to focus on 2 points - first your acting - you have to change your spirit - for a lack of a better explanation - of your performance....this makes a big difference, for example...a female voice is typically known to have more 'essss's = some people also speak more from their nose . and articulate clearly ...while other people will speak more from their chest - with less articulation .....while others speak slower and slur more while speaking from their stomachs - and all variations in between ....

another 'very important' part - is the eq'ng of the voice .... a petite woman will typically have a higher pitch ...and less bass which matches the physical frame of the body ....

there was a rumor that use to go around in the studios that stevie wonder could tell how big a woman's breasts were simply by listening to her voice .....technically if you understand the mechanics of sound ...this is possible ....but this requires an ear training that can distinguish the density of mass and it's effects on a persons voice ..... for example ..chances are a voice in a room with very thick walls will have a different 'ring' in it's natural reverb, than if the voice were bouncing around in a room made with thin walls. ( hence a heavy woman vs a petite woman )

so when you want to imitate a voice - take a moment to focus in on it's nuances and imitate them with acting, compression and eq. which btw, the morph software itself doesn't have all the tools you would need to really dig into the eq...so get it close with the basic graphic eq in the software - then finishing processing in a software like Audacity - for more detail.

The software is actually very powerful, Now I have to buy a copy because I was able to change my singing voice into a perfect female voice with the techniques mentioned above.
I may be able to give britney spears a run for her money with it ROFL!!

With all this top quality advice I need to sit back and think about putting it into some type of order. I have now purchased both software MorphVOX / ScriptVOX so I think I ‘am going rather busy. Thank you all once again for your input.

Best Regards

Not necessarily. Look at famous physically heavy opera singers. Apart from natural gifts, a lot got to do with breath and throat control, so long the heavyness has nothing to do with hormones.

And beyond a point, extra thick walls will not make any / much difference.
By planetstardragon - 12 Years Ago
ya...it does, it's a subtle nuance on the thickness - density and dampening of the reverb on sound.

on the singers themselves, trained singers will sing from their abdomen and stomach and have more efficient breathing, but non pros will sing from their chest and head.

but again this is specialized ear training - i have spent a lot of years in it.

as a producer, part of my gig is to get the best performance out of vocalist, so you can say it's a trained form of troubleshooting and advising a singer. ie - you aren't breathing enough, you are singing from your nose, you are singing from your chest, you are singing from your throat ....the producer is supposed to be able to recognize all these things so that they don't cause the artist to lose their voice when getting power performances. :p

Here's a twist - listening to extreme detail almost has nothing to do with how efficient your hearing is, and everything to do with focus and concentration. you could have amazing hearing but not know what to listen for. - so I'd imagine if stevie wonder could see - he'd be distracted by the visualization of a woman's breasts - and not as focused on listening to the detail of the subtle density difference between a heavy woman and a petite woman to imagine what she looks like.

also to keep things in perspective, we are talking about voice morphing and stereo-typical profiles of what different singers sound like naturally - if you want a skinny young person, you take off a lot of bass and pitch it higher - if you want a heavier older vocal - you add more bass and low mids and tune it lower.
