that tutorial is using a premade Daz figure that is already rigged and bringing it into iClone via 3Dxchange5pro. It shows how to retarget the skeleton.
You can buy many models at Daz 3D and that one I believe is also already in iClone format in Reallusion store, it is made by 3DU (3D universe).
If you wish to rig an object from scratch either a model or one you made in Blender, wings3D, Max or your modeler of choice (I use Carrara) you need a program that does boning or use something like mixamo online rigging.
I rig in Carrara which costs a fair many use Max but but free choices include Blender or Daz studio.
Each requires a fair bit of learning and skill but doable.

Hi Wendy thank you for the reply and yes I would like to have ago from the very begining I already have DAZ 4.6 I have had a look around it I agree there is a lot to learn being new to the whole new scene of 3d it's knowing the best place to start alot of the tutorials being shown are good but the instructors are abit quick with there pointing techniques and I have to rewind that many times I get lost of where I 'am.

Oh well I shall keep looking.

Any program that you can skin a mesh to bones in, has a standard rig built in. Then you have the option to add bones to that rig. You can also build your own from scratch.

Skinning a mesh to bones is probably the most difficult part of modeling (at least for me). It is a tedious process that requires a lot of attention to detail.

There is a skinning tutorial on YouTube for 3dsmax that is 8 parts long: at that 8 part tutorial is on using envelopes (the easy way).

If you are just starting out, I would recommend doing some modeling, some short animations, work with lighting and physics. Take it in little steps. It's very easy to get frustrated and overwhelmed.

Please could you give the link for the 3D Max 8 part tutorial on YouTube

Thank You

I have looked for it and cannot find it.
The character he was skinning was an alien with a disproportional hand. I cannot remember the search terms I used to find it.

Thank you for trying, there might be someone who might be able to help.

I already have DAZ 4.6

you can rig with DAZ studio .Not many people know it , but DAZ is a very great and professional rigging Program. You need not use a complicated or expensive Program for that.

I personally love to rig in DAZ I want not more use another 3D program more for this task.:D

Hint , with this Tutorial it give your the basics for a start.

I like the sound of DAZ 4.6 seeing as it is free program download
By vidi - 13 Years Ago
Yes it is free and so great . many people are thinking it is only a DAZ Figure Toy Programm, but it isn't :)
By rcsinger29 - 13 Years Ago
I think he was just asking because that is the tutorial I mentioned
By gcshep - 13 Years Ago
RC is correct because he mentioned 3ds Max thought I would give the tutorial videos a look at to see how complicated the program is before deciding whether to purchase it or not but the more I keep watching the tutorials on DAZ 4.6 plus the good reports that have come in about it could be a strong candidate.

Happy New Year to all of you, my friends! Have my best wishes for the new 2014!
I have one very simple question - I want to animate the movement of a scale, which I took from Google 3D warehouse. All tutorials show the movement of human but I could not find how to create rigging or IK in iClone for this simple scales. Any idea how to animate its movement when something is put on the one or other side? Should i do it in the iClone or 3Dexchange?

I have no idea how you can respond me. So here is my address: adanchev@yahoo.com.
With appreciation.

Welcome to the Forum :)

In 3DXChange:

Make all of the Scale's component parts Sub Props. Or just the component parts you want to Move/Rotate.

In Iclone:

Select the Sub Props. Moving/Rotating them, using the Gizmo to their required positions. Keyframing those positions along the Timeline.

It isn't a good idea to Post your e-mail Address on Public Forums. ;) Spammers frequent this Forum :ermm:

It is always best to have Replies to Posts, Posted in the same Thread. Rather than by Forum Private Message or E-Mail.

Best wishes to you, too, for 2014 :)

Anyone-else?

I am relatively new in iClone. We want to animate the movement of scales when something is put on them. We downloaded from Google a nice model and decomposed it in groups in the 3DXchange. But no idea how to make the rigging in iClone. A lot of tutors about human rigging and nothing about non-human cases as this. Could you help me? adanchev@yahoo.com

Rather than "rigging" the model, I suggest making the pointer on the scale a separate item, and simply key frame it to move when you place an item on the scale.

That might be a lot easier than trying to make a more sophisticated prop, and the end result will look the same to the audience.

You can substitute pieces from the Google Scale, if desired, as long as they maintain the same physics parameter settings as the one available here.

I was picturing a bathroom scale, where the only visible motion is the pointer (or the dial).

Now, rather than a spring-driven pointer, they require batteries and have an LCD display.  But even the new ones lie about my weight.  Why do they insist on adding 15-20 pounds to my weight?
