Welcome to the Forum :)

The latest iClone & 3DXchange Update is 5.5. If you haven't got it, you need to Download it from your Reallusion Account Page / Product History / Bonus & Upgrade for iClone & 3DXChange..

A Character Following a Path is Attached to the Path. The Character's Motion Animation is embedded in the Character. Not the Path. You need to Release the Character from the Path & Edit the Character in 3DXChange. However it seems that any Animation is deleted when Importing into 3DXChange, although there's an option to include Animation when Exporting back to iClone from 3DXChange !!

Posting exactly which Character Animation(s) you have & the reason why you are Editing the Character in 3DXChange, might help others who fully understand 3DXChange  to solve your problem. I'm afraid I don't & have just started the ball rolling for others to join-in..

Anyone-else?

If you use Motion-Plus, and Include "Bake Constraints" when Collecting the motion for either save or direct application to 3DXchange. then the path constraint does work.

The two options from the time line are:

1. Collect Motion - Save with Motion Plus Baked Constraint- Import into 3DXChange
2. Collect Motion - Directly Apply to a character already in 3dXchange using Motion Plus and the Baked Constraint option.

Here is a simple Chuck motion Constrained to a Path Motion; use it in iClone or 3dXchange...works either place. Collected and tested using both methods.

Hi I am trying Iclone 5.51 trial with a non human character ( the horse) I did made a walk and other motion with a path follow but when I try to collect motion the follow path not work. All the motions work but in the same place. Is it a bug or is it not possible to do something like this?
I would like to know how to solve this issue. It seems to work for human character using baking motion option but not for non human character. With non human characters I can not collect the follow path motion.
Regards and thank you

MotionPlus is not available for non-human characters, so Collect Clip will only collect the motion. In a test I did, the horse did follow the path more or less but not as precise as with Motion Plus and Bake Constraints.

Here's an idea.

If you're attaching your horse to the path, then don't. Use the Right-Click/Move command instead. To use it, select "Move" from the right-Click Menu and then click on any point in the path. The horse will walk the path. Now collect and save. You should be good-to-go.

Also, in general, there is no need to use "Motion Plus" for iClone internal animations. The vanilla "Motion" will save constraints just as well. The difference is that Motion Plus will create a "bundle" that also includes facial and hand animation for export. It's only needed for export, and then only if you need these additional animation channels.

Not sure where the original motion baking got lost in the collective consciousness, but it's still there.

I will repeat my test with another horse that is not attached to the path and see if it follows the course more accurately. I usually have no need for this option, but it's good karma to help a noob...:P

I don't believe that the term "constraint baking" was actually used in earlier versions of IC, but I may be mistaken...

Ok, it works indeed better if the horse is NOT attached to the path.

Thanks, Rampa, for the tip! Learn something everyday!

The possibility to collect all the motion (link, follow etc etc),for non human characters and iprop, created in Iclone, I am sure, would be a big issue for people working with gaming animation. Expecilly for people working with Unity or engine like that that not have a real key frame sdk.
Thak you for your answers. I hope this possibility to bake all motions and collect them for export will be added in the Iclone future versions.

caolo: there is a Wishful Features forum, so if you have ideas that would make iClone more useful for game developers that would be a good place to present those.
