Hi folks,
some of you already know that I am doing a western movie. Weeks ago I started preproduction, getting all the models, costumes, set and what ever I wanted. A lot of time did go into the conversion of DAZ and POSER models, but it was worth it.
In the German section oft the forum I started a production blog to tell others how it is like to do such a big project.
So here are some first impressions from the prologue of the movie. These pictures aren't real movie stills, they are promo pics ...

Heeeeee-yah! Head 'em up and move 'em out.... RAWHIDE!!!!! I've pulled on my boots (equipped with spurs and jingobobs of course), strapped on my hog-leg, and pulled my Stetson down low to keep the sun out of my eyes. Hi folks,
I decided to do another promoclip, cause it was hard work to get this scene done. A cowboy with a pistol is no problem, but a rifle? This is tricky especialy if the rifle is a winchester model with lever action.

Are you running the shadow resolution at the maximum?
Select a light and scroll down to "Shadow Settings". If you increase the Self-Cast Shadow resolution then you may be able to get some less pixelated shadows. The more RAM on your video card, the higher resolution you can select. Another option is blurring shadows a bit (just above the resolution setting).
The specific shots where it was noticeable were the close ups of the avatars.

I agree, it looks great. Very high quality. Love the audio. I thought the shadow bias needed some adjusting. That will probably help a bit with the banding as well.

I am running 2048x2048 resolution for the shadows. That should do it. I don't know why the shadow is flickering so much on the characters face. I' ll check this out ...

It's going to be awesome!:D Can't wait! Know what you mean about holding unusual objects...it's very tough but you did great with it!;)
I have problems with shadows like that all the time. I just start adjusting every slider that I find and at some point it usually gets a bit better....usually:P
Awhile back I heard iClone was working on changing the lighting in iClone to make it much more realistic....maybe I was just dreaming :P

I'm quite impressed with the sun flickering between the trees during the pan. It's probably the best use of the HDR lighting that I have seen. HDR is a tricky beast, and your subtlety works very well.

To be honest. The sunglow is not iClone. You will not get this results if you using only iClone. This is a lighting effect from my library. But I did put a 3D sun in the scene, as reference. And it looked quite good with HDR, but not good enough, so I tweaked it a bit ...

Are you running the shadow density at the maximum?
it looks like it. Toning down to 80% or 75% percent would look more realistic and give less flickering too.
Love your music too, did you make it ?

Yes, I am running a high shadow density, about 80% I think. I like dark shadows, may be thats not to real but I don't care about this ...
The flickering in the face is caused by a "bias" value which was set too high. Normally you would use a value of -10, I raised it to 0, because I wanted shadow on small objects too. You loose shadow when you go down to -10. But the flickering is too annoying, so I will render some of the scenes again using the right "bias" setting ...

Dayum dude. You're producing some great work here. The lighting is superb and the face animation looks like it's going to be awesome. Can't wait to see the flic. :w00t: :cool: pete (Not to be a stick in the mud but I find the whites on the eyes in iclone to be at default too bright. It kind of gives a pasted on look to the eyes. (Sort of a "Village of the Damned" effect.) I always darken the whites just a bit to get them to recess into the socket a bit more.)

Man oh man... the texture and lighting in those pics are absolutely amazing. I have been working really hard on texture and lighting in my Pinhead contest video, but everything I've done pales massively in comparison to these. Way to go, can't wait to see the video.

This project is really a big one and I did underestimate the size and scope of work for this flic. I really hope I will get this finished this year, but I don't know. I don't want to reduce the quality, so it will take time.
This project sometimes takes my strengh away. In january I made a big dialogue scene. (some of the pictures I recently posted are from that scene) Four persons, a lot of movement, about two minutes of play. Very comoplicated. After I finished this scene I couldnt do anything in iClone anymore. So I left the programm for about eight weeks to get back my motivation.
Now, my motivation is back and I worked the last days on the project.

I don't know how many Blender Foundation films have been made. Probably not more than half-a- dozen. Even then; several years to make, with a huge team. Same applies to Poser. Your & Bob's Colo(u)rblind Film will surpass all that have been made with iClone & match those made in Blender & Poser for realism. You & Bob have our support. We're here to help you keep going. :)

Today is great day, because I reached a big milestone. 15 minutes of the movie are finished now. Today I edited the scenes together, the sound is still missing but when I wathced the thing I got the feeling this could be a good one.
Now I have to concentrate on the final act and this is a big one. A lot of scene, mostly very complicated. Hope to get started within the next week ...

Today I edited the scenes together, the sound is still missing but when I wathced the thing I got the feeling this could be a good one. That's a great feeling, isn't it? In spite of a bazillion flaws and things on my To Do list, I have feel like my Pinhead project is coming together. Maybe my imagination fills in a lot of the gaps, but it really is satisfying when the image in your head starts to appear on the screen. I'm glad it's working out for you. I've enjoyed the WIP (Work In Progress) pictures you've shared. Please continue to do that. Good luck, persevere, and have fun.

Greetings, Director. In addition to wow-ing people shopping for animation software, you also have time to work on your western. You sure do get around. Nice pictures. I like the sets and set decoration. I've become acutely aware of nicely decorated sets lately because mine are vacant. I know Coca Cola is old. The product was invented in 1886 and the company was founded in 1892, so the logo can't be any older than that. Does it fit your time period? (See? I really did look at the pictures. ;) ) Okay, I made myself curious, and found this: http://logos.wikia.com/wiki/Coca-Cola That's okay, a little bit of artistic license never hurt. Bottom line: IT LOOKS GREAT AND I LOVE YOUR SETS (AND VIDEOS)

The story is set in the very late 19th. century, so most of the vintage ads are from that time period. I think the coca cola ad was made in 1902 but I am not sure anymore. So I took some creative freedom with that ...

Hi folks,
I made a hard decission in the middle of production. I redesigned the appearence of my hereo. There were always notes about the look of my hero from severals guys, even here on the forum. I did show my first 15 minutes cut to several people who where close to me and the liked it. But they also mentioned that the hero ist to pale and some aksed why he didn't had any scares left. He and his ife were attacked on his farm. He barely survived this, so there must be some scar or some old burning wound.
Two weeks ago I made the decission to change the heros appearence. I toned down the skin, made it dirty. I did put several scars and burning wounds to the face and the hands. At the end I toned down the brightness of the teeth and the eyes, so it would look a bit more real.
In the last two weeks I rerendered every scene where you can see the hero. here are some pics from the finished redesign ...

maybe ome of you asked themselves, if the movie project "The Journey" may dead? It is not!!!:D:D:D:D
I had a lot of business to do in the last 7 months, so the movie was a bit aside of my attention. Now I am working almost every day on the movie, creating scenes, force iClone to crash, all that stuff you all know very well.
To show you, that my project is still alive, I made a little clip. It is a 3 minute preview of some scenes from the final part of the movie. You will listen to some great voices of my incredible cast and you'll see some action at the end ... have fun ...

Excellent work. I really liked the documentary style camera work in the middle. Just enough to be interesting without becoming irritating. Very nice. :) The music played beautifully into the actions on the screen and the voice acting was superb.

Hi folks,
it's been a while since I wrote something here. As you may know, I stopped the production of my western movie, cause I needed a new PC to get my western town handled. I have a new PC, I work on my new project "Mum is dead", which will be finished in a few weeks.
After that, I will continue to work on my western movie, cause i don't want this project to be dead ... I hope all the assets will work on iClone 6.
Some weeks ago, I decided to go back to the edited version of "The Journey" and I decided to release the first part of it, just to show, that this project is still kicking ... :)
I did some reedits, worked over the sound mix again and I changed the music completely, cause the old one is protected by law.
The movie will have its premiere on this staurday 4pm EST / 22p.m. in europe on a live event on the TMU website.
