Re-directing the content manager

Currently and by default the content manager points to a path like this;

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Reallusion\Template\iClone 5 Template\iClone Template\Props


On my system the C:/ drive is a 150GB solid state drive that holds my applications, and I would prefer nothing else. I have several other drives on the machine for project content/data. Now I know I can open a window and drag/drop content into IC's pane, which is nice, but I would prefer to be able to just tell IC to look to another location for my content library. Is there a way to do this?

I'd like to make my content library here browsable in the content manager pane;

You can select where you want to have iClone content stored during the install. If you want to move the folders later to another drive then you will have to make several changes to the iClone entries in your Windows registry.

Ah, so no way to do this after installation? that seems like a preferences panel option oversight.

Any tips on which registry entries to edit? Where to find them? Digging into the registry can be brutal and dangerous >.<

Assuming you are on Windows 64-bit:

Open regedit and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Reallusion\iClone\5.0

Among the values are the two main content directories listed: "Custom Data" and "Template Data".

You will want to change "Template Data" to the new location. If there is enough space then it would be best to have Template Data share its path with Custom Data, just to keep things need.

There are also two shared content directories: "Shared Custom Data" and "Shared Template Data". It's is probably best to leave those where they are.

:exclamation: CAUTION 1: Before you make any changes to the registry, it is best to export the iClone 5.0 node. (Go to File ==> Export.)

:exclamation: CAUTION 2: Most content is loaded in projects and saved, so you will most likely not have problems. Videos are not, which is relevant for certain water effects, but these are mostly saved in the Shared directories. But you may run into issues.

:discuss: NOTE: If you are on an 32-bit OS the registry path would be:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Reallusion\iClone\5.0

Thank you! that totally worked. I managed to merge my content, and can now easily view it all in the manager.
