Hi Gang...just a quick heads up. I opened up my iClone this morning and saw that there was an update to 5.3, so I installed it, only to have my G3 characters no longer accept most of the stock hair that came with my iClone. It said that the hair was not compatible with that version of character. I did a system restore to before the update and now all is back to normal. Regards...Bruce

Hi - thanks for posting this - I'll hold off on the update... Question - What happens if you add a saved G5 avatar that has G3 hair on it?

excuse But I have a modest question. We have waited a few weeks until the fix patch was released 5.31. Unfortunately, this fix patch is already fraught with error. Now we wait for the fix patch for the fix patch. There maybe sometime this year again the chance or hope to get a patch worthy of the name patch and clean and working properly. It would be nice.:hehe:;):crying: Best regards from Germany The Postfrosch
Sorry but i speak only Google-English:w00t:

Hi - thanks for posting this - I'll hold off on the update... Question - What happens if you add a saved G5 avatar that has G3 hair on it? I've added older generation hair (I don't know which generation, but pre-G5) to a G5 head without problems. Saved pre-G5 characters seem to work fine hairwise.

that is right you can hair add to G5 head. but you can't add old hair to G3 heads.

@peterblood Most of users use g3 a lot, because they are well and g5 has no free clonecloth, which limits the possibilities to make custom clothing.
Freaky! First they destroy the most important facial emotion feature - and when they fix it, they destroy the most important g3 avatars. What they will destroy next..??
Postfrosch (10/16/2012) ..Now we wait for the fix patch for the fix patch...Patch of doom out of hell..? "Error inside"...?
RLs "reputation" gets better and better and better with every and every and every patch. :w00t:
A humble question: Do you have beta testers..?
A humble suggestion: Patch ic back (!) to 5.1, when nearly all has worked and give the patch the name 5.4. Just that every content will work. For sure, an added possibility to save conent in 5.3 f.e. as 4.0 (so ALL may run it) would be no error.
Don´t think that the patch of the fix, which is already a patch of patch will take a good end. Just my humble opinion. ;)
Or didn´t I read anywhere of a whole new "engine" in ic6..? A least regarding the light..? Perhaps it could be time to accelerate the release of ic6. Or it could be time to accelerate the exchange of some programers - what could solve a lot of problems or perhaps all your problems - as it looks like..... ;)

RL may need to automate its regression testing and traceability matrix. This is a whole project in itself - especially if the tools they use don't support these featuresand if they lack additional resources for this. I think its their QA's weakness is that it is at least partially manual and too reliant on the skill of the programmers / testers. The release process needs an objective relook. The best betatesters put the program through non-trivial projects.. testing not just the new features but pretty much everything else. Perhaps a pre-release betatest competition would help? Mitigative measures like crash recovery (autosave) should be considered so users dont lose *unsaved* portions of their work due to some unforeseen error. As much some people here argue (erroneously!) that iclone is a "$200 app" (thus giving RL an excuse for sloppiness), many of us know better and have spent over $1,000 just to realize the "moviemaking machine" promise and theres more investment down the line. I know RL may not have resources of the autodesks etc... but nothing stops them from looking for creative solutions.. like getting IT guys (testers / project managers etc) from the iclone community and paying them with DA points and free upgrades instead of cash. I for one would work part-time for RL in exchange for DA points, free upgrades and I think there are others here who would do the same. Deep down we all want RL to succed and to deliver the "movie making machine dream" - which is what hooked us to iclone from the early days. RL, if there's somewhere we can help, don't hesitate to engage us. Cheers!

Ok, I just understood that the .zip contains the .exe files are not a patch but the real application, that must be substituted to the equivalent ones in the program file directory.
Next time, pls, clarify this ("update to program path" might be not 100% clear, as ppl usually expect a patch, rather than a file replacement).
Can you also feedback about why the Toolkit puppetering control does not control the mouth of the new avatars ? The website seems saying exactly the opposite. A clarification is due to those who has already bought this plug-in (like me....): is this a bug or is there any tricky way to be able to control the mouth, together with the other parts of the face, according to the emotion ?
Thanks

Actually RL was probably trying to do us all a favor with the no hair G3 fiasco. Instead of having the user pull out all their hair over lame IC5 they programmed the G3 characters to do all the virtual hair pulling in sympathy of our frustrations.
Animation is wonderful... all is possible! :D IC6 will probably include character assisted suicides... oh forgot... they already tried to implement that feature with the G2's last year :P

IT is a certain fact software evolution (understand "evolution" NOT as improvement but just as "change") unfortunately leads to a critical stage where Murphy's law will manifest: "If something can go wrong, it will!"
Each individual software change, no matter how trivial it may seem requires a true, formal and extensive testing process. But not only to test the affected or "modified" part of the software but ALL!
Sudden patches, fixes and additions can create havoc as it seems impossible to overall test a complete package in ALL it's features, menus, tools and functions!
Consequences sometimes can be disastrous for developers like in my case. Many of the "changes", "improvements" and additions rendered some of my products inoperative, requiring me to rebuild and recompile but also to retire some which could not be totally recovered.
I do hope RL will find a path to a more stable upgrade process, while KEEPING compatibility with older formats as all good pieces of software should do!

moviemaker: "@peterblood Most of users use g3 a lot," :) Thank God my friend, I really thought I've been lagging behind by not using the G5's. I KNEW I was when I used G1's in my vid but I couldn't find any G3 warrior armor. Hint, hint to our designer friends. Hell, I'd even put Chuck on steroids and give Gwynn a Thorazine injection (Her eyes are like <<:w00t:>> Village of the Damned!) if you only wanted to design for G5's. ...Big Bucks waiting... Just sayin' pete

ThanksWhen you unzip you will have two folders called Bin and Bin64. In each of these folders will be a file called iClone.exe. You just need to copy each iClone.exe to the corresponding folders below. C:\Program Files\Reallusion\iClone 5 or for 64bit OS C:\Program Files (x86)\Reallusion\iClone 5
