Dear users,

Reallusion has been optimizing iClone5 to give users a more and more efficient production experience. In version 5.3, we have enhanced the animation workflow by allowing you to bake custom constraint keys into your motion clips and apply head morphing directly to characters. Meanwhile, the iClone Mocap Plug-in has been refined to provide you with increased functionality. New improvements to the plug-in include the ability to capture head rotation, and a Near Mode that allows you to capture motions from an even closer distance.

Microsoft Kinect for Windows Mocap Device:
  • Added: “Near mode” and “Head rotation” options.
  • Enhanced: Update Kinect for Windows driver from v1.0 to v1.5 (Ref: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj160161)
    - Enhanced performance
    - Better skeleton tracking
  • Fixed: Some operations may cause program crash.

  • Added: iClone Message Panel, providing additional warning or error messages for iClone, plugin, and LUA script operations.
  • Added: “Bake Constraint Key” option in the modify panel of the Animation – Motion area. Now users can bake Look At / Path Constraint / Reach Keys to iMotion clip, and for further FBX/BVH motion export through 3DXchange Pipeline.
  • Enhanced: Support for morph-based facial animation in iClone5. The new head system is now compatible with lipsync animation and facial puppeteering.
    - To utilize the unique facial expressions tools, you will need to have the new Monster Character Pack which is specially designed with a morph-based head system. This pack is scheduled to release in Sept 2012.
    - Reallusion will add the morph-based head import functionality in the next 3DXChange release.
  • Enhanced: Separated the "Material & Texture Settings" into 3 sections. It's now easier to fold/unfold material settings, which allows for quicker material picking and adjustment without the need to constantly scroll up and down the modify panel.
  • Enhanced: When applying accessories to a target bone location, the accessory will retain the correct orientation, regardless of the bone naming difference between character generations, this also works for 3DX5 imported Non-Standard Characters.
  • Fixed: For a skinned prop rigged to several sub-nodes, you can now attach each node to a different character bone, and correctly display the skin-bone rigged result. You can save it together with a character, or delete the skinned prop without error.

To update please select Help > Check For Updates in iClone. Alternatively you can Login to your Member Account and download the update by selecting Bonus in your list of Registered Products. The update can also be downloaded using LiveUpdate.

Fantastic! I knew you could do it !!! :)

The restored capability to save skinned accessories attached to Avatars is going to be quite interesting !

Now it is well worth the venture :)

Also, the fix for accessory position when applying to different skeleton structure is also very very important !

Peter, is there any chance of 3DXChange being able to import models with non-head morphs (i.e., Blendshapes) that can be keyframed in iClone? An example would be being able to animate a DAZ Genesis character to go from being super thin to super tall or to super fat.

Wonderful, great, thank you very much RL.

But please, please, pretty please compile a patch installer that doesn't list the "Bonus G5 Outfit Developer Collection" as not being installed and forcing me to reinstall it for what now feels like the 10th time. Just about every ver. 5 patch has refused to "see" that this pack is installed and lists the contents as "Bonus" - which means that trying to add one of them to the stage leads me to the download page for the pack.:w00t::crazy::crying::Whistling:

The 64Bit version of iClone 5.3 is still Beta. The next version of iClone should see the full release.

Hands away from this "Patch of doom"!

It repairs some things - yes - but it destroys some basic (!) things, too!

1. Some amls f.e. in Jimmy Toon suddenly crashes the whole iClone, if you use perform! Until 5.23 this didn´t happen! I have tested it!
Nobody knows what else is destroyed!

2. Face expressions are destroyed! Useless! They just don´t work anymore!

3. iClone is after 5.3 noticeable slower. An old project with some phyiscs props and avatars makes preview way too slow, NOW.


For sure - if this is no problem and you really need the repairs - update.
All others: Think about updating twice!

They'll fix it in 5.4

If there is one thing I've learned from being with iClone over the years is that it always gets better. Sometimes it takes a step backward before it goes forward - but it eventually gets there.

Just because I HAD TO prove this to the german guys and girls:








The 3. clip is out of iClone 5.23 - others out of 5.3.


And I just hope, RL boosters out the new patch, FAST.
At moment about 5 years old games like the cheesy "The Movies" that costs 10$ beat
iClone. :crazy:
"Patch of doom". Think seldom this name has fitted better.

The motion capture seems MUCH BETTER!  Now you can cross your arms across your body! Awesome!

BUT.... How do we update the Mocap Plugin?
My Mocap plugin does not show the "Head Rotation" control.... it's still the same old plugin as before...

Again, the mocap seems vastly improved...

I’m getting a twist in the torso that looks very strange. I will post a picture tonight.

Hi Jason,

The Mocap Device Driver has only been updated for those using the Kinect For Windows devices.

If you have one of these then it should have automatically been updated when you installed the iClone 5.3 patch. You can also download it from within your Member Account by clicking "Bonus And Update" in your list of Registered Products.

If you have a Kinect For Xbox device, then unfortunately there is no update available.
