How can one make a wall mounted mirror?

In the attached picture I created a reflective surface using a standard 3D block, however the reflection is terrible. On the floor I used water and the reflection is perfect.

Does anyone know how to do this?

This question pops up every now and then, but answer is still - no. No vertical mirrors yet in iClone. Horizontal water is best you can get in that regard. Sorry.
Try some trick with green screening or, that could be rather elegant solution, try to mimic mirror with video file mapped on "mirror" surface.
(meaning, film your scene twice, from different angles if you must, one for actual scene and one for the "mirror" scene. Then just use flipped "mirror" video as animated texture of the mirror surface.)

Hello ,

a mirror like this :

If you want a high resolution reflective image, this is how to do it.

1) Rotate your camera 180 degree to film your character facing the mirror

2) Use the IMAGE overlay to represent the Mirror frame and place in front of character

3) Render scene as single uncompressed TGA Frames, i.e. frame001, frame002 etc...

4) Use photoshop batch system to flip every frame horizontally and generate a non compressed Video

5) Load new Video as Background Video Layer to your original scene ...

:D

See my Pinhead Movie of 2 years ago ...It uses such a scene...

Cheers!

There is a mirrorplane for iclone 5 you can also use vertical. Is that not what you are looking for?
By 3DStory - 13 Years Ago
Thanks everyone for your prompt responses.

@Sen - yes the mirror in your video is probably sufficient, how did you do it?

@Bigboss - I can use that method if others fail, as it seems like a little more work. I don't think I need an extremely high resolution reflection for what I am trying to achieve, just not as distorted as the one I posted.

@ W. Veeke - Where is this magic mirror plane? I searched my content for 'mirror' but can't see any.

Hi ,

mirror plane was included in iclone 5 beta but not released with official . Some trouble
I don't know if I can join the file here . Peter ??????
By 3DStory - 13 Years Ago
well, that explains my failed file searching lol

I'll offer to help beta-test the mirror plane...:w00t:
By 3DStory - 13 Years Ago
Yes, me too.

Peter (Reallusion) - could we share/try the beta-mirror-plane? Or are there issues with it in IC5?
By Christy0 - 13 Years Ago
Too bad mirror plane not included in relrase version. It would have been a great iClone extra and time saver for anyone doing reflection shots.

You can "kinda" get a mirror, that's close, if you take the sphere and squeeze it a bit flat, but not too much, then apply reflection properties and it's kinda like a very "curved" mirror ...give it a shot :D

Show this example.
There is a video on the rear wall, something like it Bigboss has proposed

Cheers!

It's not without its issues but attached is the Mirror Plane iProp for those who would like to try it. Here's the deal though. No coming back and saying it doesn't work properly. ;)

Thank you Peter for making this available. I have to say it works more "right" then what we had before. Even unpolished tools can get the job done.:)

For others playing with this mirror; to have it reflect the sky and terrain properly, all you need to do is add a second mirror. It can be beside, behind, connected, underground, whatever.

Using a backlight (180 degrees) at the same intensity as your front light will light your avatar properly in the reflection.

Playing with the mirror's materials can be very interesting.;)

Peter,

Thank you!

Thank you peter. I've not needed it yet but it'll be fun to give it a try. :)

Thanks Peter,

I will give it a try next week when I get back to my iClone PC.
