not into Vocaloids, I use Myriad Melody assistant virtual singer but I downloaded MMD because it is free!
I download a lot of free animation crap because it is free!
any way, not finding the English version of PMD editor I settled for the Jap one
and got a rigged Daz character via Carrara as a directX file into it.
by pure trial and guess work
it IS ENTIRELY IN JAPANESE!!! :w00t:
cannot figure out how to get a rigged model out though for retargetting in 3dx5!
just static props and figures
may not be possible
but
I would not know BECAUSE IT IS ENTIRELY IN JAPANESE!!!!!
dunno if the .x export is infact rigged but Carrara does not detect the rigging or just an object
anyone else used this program?

Hi Wendy,

Just quick info for you, available MMD tutorials in English are listed here.

I'll also try to find out about your question.

By wendyluvscatz - 14 Years Ago
thx for that link Hirospot, looks more promising than the ones I have seen.
the rigging I did get into MDD had no ik restraints and just stretched the mesh, most things inc iClone pipeline exports just get the yellow triangle with a ? in it.
must grab the latest Blender one day, that might be the .x file link needed.
at least it is in English!
I can get props in and out.

iClone definately run rings around it but the bullet physics looked as though it could be cool.
I just like collecting freeware for the sake of it! :hehe:
and the Anime figures were cute but since they have copyright restrictions even on rendering, no point in rerigging them in Carrara to render in iClone or I would!

This is the second quick info, PMD editor Tutorial in English is here.
Please check.

I bookmarked it.
this appears to be quite a powerful little free program allowing rigging within it, pity the export/import options are limited to directX.
I might play with it more later, thx for the link, bit too overwhelming at the moment, only learnt of it yesterday.

I was wondering how MMD characters can be transfered to iClone and here my new report for pipelining MMD characters to iClone.

Several freewares such as ColladaExport Plugin for MMD and FBX converter were used, then .x file was not needed.

Converted MMD characters can play with iMotion, however, motions designed for MMD characters, converted to BVH format by freeware, do not work properly in iClone at this moment.

Complete tutorial "Using BVH motion converter" with all JPGs is appreciated.

Hirospot
By wendyluvscatz - 14 Years Ago
that is cool, will have to look at that collada plugin!
I was hoping these cute characters could be brought into iClone!
your tutorial is very well put together,
who knows, MikMiku fans might start using iClone too!
I certainly can see vocaloid voices being used with iClone avatars and others once they get the facial animation for imported characters working.
I already do it (virtual singing animations) with Myriad Melody assistant virtual singer!
in Carrara, Daz studio and Poser as well as iClone, the only reason I have not shown much interest in vocaloid is I find their site too hard to follow due to language barriers or I might have bought a voice or two already.
By wendyluvscatz - 14 Years Ago
I imported the fbx into Carrara as the bones were huge in 3dx5 and renamed them in English to make it easier for me while I was there ;)
added spring to the unused bones, worked on the skirt (which I lifted to avoid leg intersection, a lot of those anime videos show panties so thought it was ok, she has titties so is an adult!!!) the hair did not want to spring though which was a pity.

need uncopyright restricted MMD dance models though so I can do videos!
I made sure I acknowleged the copyright and stated it was a test so hopefully fair use, if informed otherwise, will just remove it.

Hiropost,
Have you tried using the 3Dexchange5's BVH conversion ability to map the the two rigs and then export the BVH as iMotion?
By hirospot - 14 Years Ago
@sharad.inc

Thank you for your question and very sorry for my delayed response.

It had been very funny that the MMD characters converted to iClone Non-Standard character showed right T-pose and seemed dancing nicely in iClone, but when they bowed, they did to backward direction with imported MMD iMotion file.

It took time to find out that the reason was the difference of Coordinate system between MMD environment and iClone motion system.

When exporting the MMD motion with BVH format, Left-handed coordinate system is to be adopted for 3DXchange Motion Pipeline.

Here is the latest report of MMD motion conversion for iClone. Sample video (MP4).

Whoa that's pretty neat! I remember seeing MMD a while ago..

Oh and Wendy, there are English vocoloids. I think one is named Sana or something. Prima is an opera one. The JP ones are only more popular because they have anime characters... although I think Sana (Sonna) has a character as well.

Hirospot, I tried the spring modifier with some success on the skirt, not so much on the hair, mainly due to my ignorance on the correct parameters for gravity, bounce etc in the script to get the desired effect:
my hair either just wobbled or sprung around madly
(I tried looking at Wil Veeke's hair pieces for example for reference but it seems the boning etc of object used is also a variable).
the horse avatar tail spx script as pointed out on this forum is a good starting point.
export it from the horse open it in notepad and rename the bones to exactly match the ones you wish to add spring too then save it as all files unicode spx, I found it does not actually matter if you give it youcharactersname.spx or anothername.spx import it, it will take a while to show or may need to be reimported, iClone needs to think about it for some reason.
By wendyluvscatz - 14 Years Ago
the issue is, importing characters into Carrara to rename bones destroys the smoothing

but iClone cannot apparently read Japanese characters as bone names

Photobucket click to view on photobucket

so the spring modifier ignores the spx file.

By wendyluvscatz - 14 Years Ago
okay, I renamed the bones in Carrara and found smoothing the model mesh in the vertex room kept the rigging

the renamed bones are recognized by the spring modifier.
By hirospot - 14 Years Ago
Hi  Windy,

Thank you very much.  Your instruction for Spring Modifier was great!
Helped with your indication, Ponytail on the new MMD model was started responding to the SPX data.

Here is the latest report referring to the SPX Spring bone settings for the stranger character.
By defining target bones for Ponytail, hair, and Neck frill in each individual SPX files, these parts responded to each SPX parameters when imported to the project.

Short video for showing the SPX effect, their current parameters in my test may not be so perfect at this moment but the process in the report will be applicable to other MMD models.

Please check:
Test 1 for Ponytail only and
Test 2 for Hair and Neck Frills also.

It was observed when several settings were changed and imported one by one for the better effect, primally imported SPX data seemed to remain in the project file once it was imported, even if that SPX data was not shown on the file saved by Export Setting.

Thus, once one SPX file imported and want to modify the effect, I needed to repeat refreshing the current project with all the current SPX spring settings in the screen, then call the original project again for new import of the next SPX file.

It seemed inconvenient for stranger characters to determine the adequate SPX parameters in a short time.
There seems no visible indicator for Spring Effect settings on the Timeline Track List.

I need to examine more on the relations between SPX data prameters settings and the expected effect on the screen, together with hoping how to make individual adjustment of spring effect for movable part on the character in realtime.

Thank you again for your guidance this time.

By hirospot - 14 Years Ago
Hi,

MMD characters are provided with extra bones and bone mapping tool in the 3DXchange is not fully expanded for these yet.

Firstly, swing movement was realized by assigning the SPX parameter for Spring Effect to these extra boes in MMD character, however, it seems rather different from natural movement.

Then, expressions by Flex method is told as the better solution as Flex Base, cloth and hairs are available in iClone Props.
So, MMD characters could be better expressed as one of such iClone Props.

Live Animation (Free MMD tool) can generate dance movement with characters hair and cloth.
With the FBX Export feature in the tool, this movement was simply imported to 3DXchange, then, transfered to iClone as Props without being characterized in 3DXchange.

By applying the same dance motion to iClone Flex type Character, MMD Props also can move in the same way.

Please find my latest report and short video (MP4:8.3M).

Thank you for your attention.
Hiro

By wendyluvscatz - 14 Years Ago
yes, it is a pity some of these extra features are lost by converting to non-standard characters, I believe the Max pipeline allows more of it to be accessed while still creating characters using iMotions. I can import even facial animation etc on characters rigged for it if they are props but you lose this option retargetting, spx was the only thing I could find that at least accessed some of the unrecognized bones, the much desired "third panel" would help solve this. I have never gotten flex to work myself on imported props.
By Dreamcube017 - 14 Years Ago
Hmmm... This is really useful. I wonder... How is it that LiveAnimate can actually map the animations onto any character? Can animations from other characters be brought over? I really would like to use the iClone animations on some of those characters... darn, if only you could specify which bones were flex or springs in 3DX... I'll have to give LA a test, seeing as flex doesnt' seem tow rok.

Thank The Universe for Clone Bone my friend! I couldn't create a rig if my life depended on it!:w00t:

LOL

Cathy :hehe:
By Dreamcube017 - 14 Years Ago
I've created simple rigs from scratch before... and it's not TOO bad, but I'm no pro rigger.

And as to retargeting ALL the bones... uh yeah... some of the bones don't have places to put them... the facial bones have no place to be targeted. I don't see why you'd LOOSE them in iClone though. You should still be able to move them... you might have to have a script for them though.

Also there are all those bones for clothing to have dynamics and stuff. Where do we target those... oh wait, we don't.

I can retarget the bones, but it'd just be so lame to lose all those dynamics and facial animations. That's just too much. I wish 3DX could have more of the features that the PMD Editor has.
By Dreamcube017 - 14 Years Ago
Sooo... I started looking at Live Animate. It's pretty cool how I don't have to go through PMD and FBX converter... but MAN it'd be awesome if I could rename the bones..... like you have no idea. I know I can do it in C4D or something, but that's just one extra step. In MMD, the bones have English names. (The ones for Miku do anyway) How come they don't when you export them?

Is there a way to rename them in LiveAnimation or 3DX?

Thanks.
By Dreamcube017 - 14 Years Ago
Ok when I say I've done simple rigs int he past, I don't mean I've just taken a BVH and skinned it... I mean I've completely set up the bones from nothing. I hand placed all the bones in the character I was working with, then skinned... THEN weightpainted to make sure they deformed correctly. What is the difference between that and rigging? I even set up IK chains.

Now here's the thing.

I KNOW I can bring the character in as a prop with ALL of the animations intact as long as they're bone based. That's NOT the problem.

The problem is I want to use the iClone motions on these characters WHILE still maintaining their dynamics.

If that's not possible without totally rewriting the SPX or flex file or something, then I'll just animate them in MMD or something and bring them over like that.

If they just had like a spring or flex editor where you could assign bones and see how they work that way, that'd be great... YES I know there's something like that in Max. I've seen the white papers... I've still got my student version and honestly I may just go in there JUST to do that... possibly... but then possibly not... depends on how non-lazy I feel. xD

But thanks for pointing that out. Totally forgot about this even though Hirospot mentioned it like a page or two ago.
By wendyluvscatz - 14 Years Ago
I have used the spring modifier spx script on the bones as you saw on my video.
you need to rename the bones though as it does not read Japanese characters, can do that in my case in Carrara but can use any 3D app with fbx import/export but not apparently 3Dx5 pipeline.
flex would be better but I don't think I can do that without Max.
By Dreamcube017 - 14 Years Ago
To Wendy.

Hmm. I've characterized the character WITHOUT renaming the bones... so all of the JP names are intact. The reason I did this is because all (most) of the MMD characters share the same names, so I now have a profile... and I have another one for a JP game that has a bunch of characters that can be exported to MMD. So they can be exported too. Their naming convention is a bit different, but I've made one for both... and the names are in JP. However, I might have to make the spring names English for the .spx file. That shouldn't be a problem as none of those bones are used in the initial characterization. So I can rename those with out a problem sense iClone's main animations won't be bothering those bones... I think I can even bring in the facial stuff that has bones... but I'm not sure about that yet.

One thing I wish though is that you could modify the T-pose of the character WHILE in the middle of a test animation because sometimes you just don't know how it's going to look until you start testing it. So you end up having to go back and forth. I'll put this in the suggestions thread. Shouldn't be something too hard to put into the next update.

Thanks Sw00p. If I have some time, I'll look into that flex stuff in Max. ... Or I just had a crazy idea where I animate it in iClone, export it back out and see if I can get it into either LiveAnimation or something else and see if I can get the dynamics back... somehow though, I kinda doubt it.

help how to import vmd motion file from MMD in LiveAnimation and export the motion file to use in iclone
By hirospot - 14 Years Ago
Hi,
Just revised my Pipeline Test report #9 (MMD Model to Unity) in which Custom motion such as BECKY_PANKING in LiveAnimation was adapted.

Here some findings:
1. Scene Tree
By using PMD Editor with Collada Export Plugin and Autodesk FBX Converter2013, 3DX5 can show better notation in Scene Tree.

2. Material
 1) When FBX enbedded texture is imported to 3DX5, all Specurar value shows 100 which need to set to 0.
 2) When Model has Opacity setting in 3DX5, Transparent/Diffuse is to be choosed in the Shader in Unity Inspector view.

3. Motion
1)Any license free characterized MMD Models, plus Custom Motions imported in the 3DX5 Motion Library and Performed can be exported into Unity via 3DX5 pipeline.
 2) When Motion Clip is attempted to change in Unity, Model need to be in T-posed.

Please find my revised report here. Demo video in MP4: 5.9MB

By Dreamcube017 - 14 Years Ago
Thanks Hiro. Much appreciated.

I've looked though a lot of your reports and they really do shed some light on a lot of things.

I've been wanting a lot of anime characters and the comgination of MikuMikuDance and this thing I found called 3D Custom Girl work rather well. I have to rename all the 3DCG bones to English in the PMD Editor, but that'll be easy, just kinda long.

Only thing that's really slowing me down is that iClone can't take faicial animations and I'd REALLY like them to have this feature... ohterwise I'd have to export a bunch of different versions of them with different facial features... that's no fun. So I'm stuck waiting on this update until I come up with another solution.

At first I had the idea of importing them back to MikuMikuDance, but then realize I'd have to do twice the work to get it to work right... or maybe I wouldn't not sure.

But I know that if 3DX FULLY supported JP characters, It'd takea LOT of hastle off of things.

Hmm... now if only there was a program to easily make lots of anime guy characters... gee......

Thanks again.

iClone5.4 64Bit in Bin64 does not open somehow, and my work had to be slowed down severat times as NVIDEA Display Driver had stopped operation when editing the motion details in the Timeline went to complicated.

Anyway, it was time consuming and not satisfctory to make synchronizing the dance motion to the free music manually, hopefully sound waveforms shown in the timeline.

By hirospot - 12 Years Ago
Hello, emerboz34

It is not recommended to use e-mail to send Miku dance motions as
their file sizes might exceed the regular mail servers capacity.

Many Miku dance motions are available on a several web site now,
I'd rather like to tell you that you visit the site like this:
deviantART-Motion Data Index A-L

and find your favorite one by yourself.

The site has listing of motions and you can preview the video before you go to download step .

If you intend to use the Miku motion in iClone5, you need other tools and step to convert
the file format before importing to 3DXchange, as your downloaded Miku motion has .vmd format.

Please check my test report #4 and #5 for more details. Here

but have some texture that not right if can see the picture about
here Blender pic

You can see the tree is not gray in blender but in sketchup and 3dxchange it come out weirdly.

EDIT 2: I mean blender to dae then convert it into fbx via FBX CONVERT (AUTOCAD APP) then import to 3dxchange. Step that success*

All this test and error if i do this kind of stuff i don't know what disadvantage about this and don't know if it compatible with iclone animation
i'm still have problem about facial expression and physic for cloth and hair...

is there any guide step by step....? or someone can help me about this stuff :D

Why jump through all those hoops when you can export as OBJ or FBX from Blender and then run the files directly through 3DXchange to iClone?

Because it give bright color or not color  and wrong texture on 3dxchange when i am try normal conversion blender to fbx and to obj😫 so i go all the hoop it work... point me if there any right way to fix texture problem.

Edit: test again..  it dont work anymore i dont how it happen but it give same result as normal conversion....
Edit: only some skp model work some dont work

I hope this thread is still ongoing, since I just found out about it through another member!
So I've found a way to import my Splatoon 2 models from MMD into iclone7. or into 3dxchange!https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/edafc05c-821c-4764-8f33-6a18.png
I'm really just having trouble with mapping the bones correctly. i can't find a tutorial on how to properly map the bones on a model that has so many. if anyone is able to map them and create a profile for the model that would be a HUGE help since all of the models work the same. (A characterization profile) i believe it's called! Will be awaiting rep[lies :)
i have also attached a rar file with her 3d OBJ file thats the converted version of the pmx in my other forum post since i don't have any space here Link to model
