Time freeze animations

Hi,
It would be great if there was possible to freeze selectible characters movement and particle emitters in selectible time, and only animate camera movement.
I have tried to drag timeline to a frame and then use a screen capture program and move the camera by the mouse, but it is hard to get the video smooth and to make the correct camera movements.
This video shows the effect:

This video also the effect but i guess this is more 2d layers effects) :)http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_116545&src_vid=oZwXA21t--s&v=9ENeYPBTVVw

you could do that with green screen and editing. - render the particles on a green background in iclone, then slow down, speed up or freeze it in your video editor, render that as a new file ( don't remove green yet ), then import your other file with the character and environment in real time. Then overlay the processed file over the realtime file. ( now remove green )

Thank you, interesting posibility for 2d effects :)
I really want to move/rotate the camera and render movie around in the 3D scene with the particles seen from 360 degrees inside iClone.:)

planetstardragon great suggestion -

brand468 in way that planetstardragon suggests and a little planing - I think it could be close to what you are looking for....

..another way is to show the areas you want in 3D with the camera spin and then combine it with the alpha channel (which is really the same thing that planetstardragon is saying)

- I think with a little for planning you could do it.

- except for the particles which you may have difficulty shooting that in 3D - at least what I can come up with right now-anyway.

It may not be done the same way other programs have done it - but, I believe, there are things we can do in Iclone 5 (easily) that they can't.

I think you could create a reasonable work around - (with a little planning).

Thanks Sal, ya, I think that particular effect was done with after affects, you could see the green screen processing in it. as for moving around the particles, thats a matter of how you promote the layers and adjust angles in the overlay, ......but that was an obvious editing trick, the clue is look at the edge of the explosions....they look grey'ish / cut out.

I'm guessing a way to give the illusion of creating the 3D is say for example you use 4 tracks ....1 track has the actor moving in real time, the 2nd track has the environment only, and the other 2 tracks have the green screen effects...one effect track is in front of the actor, and behind the actor in another. so when he's running around it gives the illusion that he is running in front or behind the particles. Cheers :)

Hi, and thanks for all nice suggestions :)
The 3d particle effect is very important for me in the still effect i want.
I want to freeze iClone animation at some parts and then continue the animation and then stop again etc.
I have a little bit hard to explain this in text so i hope this short video explain it better.
I have freezed the animation in time and used the preview camera and captured video by a screencapture program, then i continue the animation.
So it could be done inside iClone but it is hard to move the camera smooth. It is also visible markers on the plane.:)

nice, looks like you are doing some pretty fast /complex movements - there are a few ways to approach that in iclone ....one way that is my own personal favorite .....is my beginning - middle - end approach....I go to the beginning of the shot ...position my camera to the perfect angle....I go to the middle of the shot ...reposition the camera to another perfect shot ...then I do the same for the end ....I let iclone tween / fill in the blanks ....then tweak from there ....but that can be bumpy .....then you have another technique with the kinect set up and attaching a camera to a character you control and move the cam in real time to get a live feel ...shaky cam! Then there's the way to do it with a path, which can be much smoother ..... I'm still a student though.....I just enjoy helping others and sharing what I know ...I find it's a great way to learn more and meet new people :) There are some very skilled guys on this forum though, who have done some amazing tutorials and books and have in depth knowledge of Iclone ..You may want to look them up, I'm sure if they have the time, They'd be more than happy to guide you the right direction. I'm just suggesting how it's possible, but I'm still learning as well.... Best wishes on your project, please share when you are done, it sounds like an exciting one! - Cheers!

brand,
You can select the "path dummy" in the scene manager and in the "modify panel" you copy the position value (for example 21.12) at the frame (saying 530 for example) you want the motion to stop. Then you go to the frame (for example Frame 730) where you want the motion to restart and paste the same position value (for example 21.12) in the "modify panel-path-position" of the "path dummy". The plane will stop from Frame 530 to 730, the particles staying on!
Between the 2 values you place your camera as needed.
Maybe this will help!

I have a possible solution, but I'm not sure it would work like you're hoping and I know it would be time consuming...

I'm also not sure how to express my idea in iClone terms... but as I recall, you can create your animations and then save them from the timeline. Once they are saved as a motion, you can then split them in the timeline. Separate the split motion for the length required to move your camera and Oila!

Or not... someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

ya, there are plenty of ways you can achieve this, as I'm reading other suggestions, I got inspired with another one!

in iclone there is a billboard prop that always faces the cam, you could render your particle effect do your processing to it , in or out of iclone in an editor ....then use the green screen on the Billboard "Facecam" prop - this way when you are moving your camera around, the billboard is always facing the cam and almost functions like a 3D object giving the illusion you are going around it. This effect is a great practice for the imagination!

Hi all,

Jen:  I tried your solution but the particles is not freezed in time, or maybe im doing it wrong?

Tera: Not sure if this will work for particles?

Planetstardragon: Yes, i have tried to use billboard props with transparent pictures, and it could work in some cases for me.  Still not the the same as the real particle effects if the particles is emmitting in a direction etc and you want to rotate 360 degrees around.

Thank you for all suggestions, the thing is that iClone freeze the scene like i want, the only thing is that i cant control the camera the way i want, and i must use a screen capture for recording the freeze animation part.

I think It would be a nice feature to do this inside iClone for great effects. :)
