Frame rate

Hi all,

There's something I don't understand with the frame rate. I've set it to 30 in the Export panel, Video / Output range. But when I press play in the editor mode, to test my animation, it runs with a frame rate of about 60, and never changes, whatever I do. I'm sure that is stupid and I've probably missed something obvious... Could anybody help ?

Thanks !

Well unless they updated something, this is iClone's fault. The 60 FPS is only fore viewport and timeline which really doesn't make much sense because the highest vid framerate iCLone can go is 30.

Sorry.

This not quite true. If you use image sequences you can export at up to 60 frames per second. I think it is actually good that the export frame rate of the video does not influence the frame rate in the project. More frames means smoother motions and with image sequences you can actually make use of that.

I've never understood what iClone's Export Frame Rate refers to & have never received a logical explanation.

IMO, there are 3 TV Standards: PAL, NTSC & SECAM. The Frame Rates are fixed & never change.

Those are the Export Frame Rates in NLE Video Editing Programs for Video Files. So why does iClone have a variable Frame Rate Slider for eg; AVI File Export?

Apart from that, the Export FPS Rendering speed is entirely dependent on your PC's Hardware. Again, no explanation as to what in iClone is GPU & CPU dependent, both in Realtime & Export Rendering.

In NLE Programs, Background (No Real-Time) & Export only Rendering, of applied Video Effects, Transitions & Titles are GPU dependent. Encoding, Sound Effects, Voice Files etc are CPU dependent.

So it means, if I want to set a 2-seconds action, how many frames do I have to use ? 60 or 120 ?

To see it realtime in the viewport, it should be 120, but when exporting (unless exporting an image sequence), the speed will be different... It may be really hard to adjust a sound to an action, in this case. Are you all exporting image sequences ?

Halv, don't pay any attention to the framerate mark in the left corner of the screen, it depends of many factors, and it will not influence your video output, just real time viewing.
iClone is not really real time animation software (in fact, there is no such software, even real time game engines are rendering their images, just earlier in the process), it still need to render every frame, just like Maya or Max, just not that advanced.
If you know that outcome video will be rendered with 25 fps, then make 50 frames long scene for 2 seconds, simple as that. And I recommend to make timeline showing frames, not seconds.
BTW, different frame rate of AVIs can be very useful; I always shot (render) videos in 50, sometimes even 100 frames per second, because it is then easier to manipulate video speed in video editing software, making slow motions, etc... (More frames, slower playback in video editing software, to put it simply.)

In the Timeline:

1) Select the Motion Timeline Track you've applied the Motion to.

2) Select the Frame on the Motion where you want your sound to start.

3) Import your Audio File

4) Select the Motion Frame where you want your sound to stop

5) Right Click on Sound Track / Break & Delete the unwanted portion, or Drag it, if required.

That's one way of doing it. But I'm not an Expert.

The Timeline frames in iClone do not meet any known standard in the video world.

However 61 Frames on the Timeline equal 1 second in time.

The screen grab below shows how it is, and I've never had any problems getting it right.

Just look at the time in the upper window and Current Frame in the lower window. Make sure that you have the time setting units set to Time.

Yes, true. Forget my post, I was sure (working in MotionBuiilder for a years) that frames stuff are following the same principle.
As in any animation software known to man...
Sorry.

I tried to explain why it is good to have 60 frames per second within iClone, but I guess it is a lost cause...
