Dear iCloners

After iClone5 launch with the revolutionary mocap plug-in, many people start to experience the mocap animation with Kinect device. And we also received lots of questions about how they can make the capture result good. So, here we would like to open a thread to well organize the current useful resources to optimze your mocap performance.
http://www.reallusion.com/iclone/iclone_mocap_device.aspx

Before you start, please remember to check out the Online Help which contains useful information for your mocap setting.
http://www.reallusion.com/iclone/help/iclone5/PRO/default.asp?page=08_Animation/Device_Mocap/Using_the_Device_Mocap_Panel.htm
(There are 4 pages in the Help document)

In the other hand, you may also want to visit the FAQ to know about the most common issues you will face.
http://faq.reallusion.com/?action=category&cat_id=011001006002

And we also summarize some key points for you as below:

1. Stike the best "H" pose for calibration

2. Check off the "Foot Contact"

3. Avoid overlapped limbs

4. Avoid reflective or polished floor when you do the capture at your home or office

5. Clear the furniture or object around you

You can additionally check out this tutorial provided by Stuckon3d that you can get better ideas how to avoid foot sliding.

Finally, we have to let people know that Reallusion is always looking for the solutions to optimize the plug-in for better mocap performance. If you have any suggestion or issue about this current version, please provide your feedbacks below. We will well receive them and let you know the possible next update and enhancement soon.

Best Regards
Reallusion, Inc.

Hey Visconti, thanks for the information. Question: the example shows a fellow with a white design on a black shirt. Is there much potential for ink and fabric differences to confuse the infrared camera? Would a solid t-shirt be any safer?

Very useful info for sure.

For clarification on step 2 "Check off the "Foot Contact"

Does this mean the FOOT CONTACT is checked (box has check mark)
or is FOOT CONTACT box supposed to be unchecked (Box with no check mark)

My bad. I corrected my post. Tongue

Some people found that people in black pants, black shoes, and stand on the black floor will totally confuse the sensor. So, the clothes really matter. We will give better suggestions for clothes if any standard rule is defined.

I had some foot issues, so I wore long black dress socks (tight ones) and tighter shorts against a white background. Worked magnificently. Smile

I also found tight clothing period gives slightly better results. Anything that increases your contrast is worth a try.

Hi Visconti and all
I have a question and maybe this is a stupid question , but I can't find an answer.
Microsoft update kinetic SDK with intersting features that are important for me.

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kinectforwindows/archive/2013/03/18/the-latest-kinect-for-windows-sdk-is-here.aspx

I don't know if can happen any conflict with IClone if I install the last drives from microsoft... Could you clarify this for me?
