I'd like the ability to pin basic props together, and set pivot points, in order to make small characters and machines. For example, pin two wings to a centre shape to make an animated Halloween bat. Or pin shafts together to make a working steam piston.

If I understand your requirements correctly it sounds as though you could achieve what you need by creating a sprite-chain prop. This is created in the Prop Composer and is explained HERE. Feel free to let me know if I have misunderstood your request.

It would be nice to force some objects to be static in the chain, so you still pin other objects to them with rotation etc but they don't move.
