to me it sounds like you are creating an OBJ. file and to are trying to export it, to iclone through 3dxchange, which shows up as a prop.
problem 1. OBJ.'s don't have enough information to make into an avatar. ( mainly because obj.'s are just mesh and uv's )
problem 2. (if you have a fbx. with bones ) you need to convert it to a non-human character first then export it to iclone.
problem 3. non-human character rigs ( avatars you made up yourself ) can't use normal premade animation files. say a motion pack.
