Although DAZ suffers from a nonsensical structure of its assets and a wonky interface, it is suitable for filmmaking too. That's sums it about up for DAZ. I'm not sure about the filmmaking part. I remember it being touted as Poser replacement after some row between DAZ (or Zygote) and whoever developed Poser at the time. What a disappointment that has been.
Really? First of all, their business was built on selling content, so it really did make sense for them to want their own stable platform. Remember how many owners Poser has had since it was launched (I hope Smith-Micro see a good return on their next version!). In that time DAZ have largely caught up to Poser in terms of what you can do in the program. In many ways they have even surpassed Poser, with things like Puppeteer, the Genesis figure, the decimator and texture atlas plug-ins. What has been disappointing is that neither program has truly differentiated itself from the other. Both new versions look nice, but both still have the same slow render times, and lack proper soft/rigid dynamics.
