I have a motion clip that's 100% keyframed (no mo-cap or puppetry). I want to break it at a spot to create two clips that can be moved independently.
When I break the clip, a ton of key frames get added. See before and after below.
Anyone know why this is happening and how it can be avoided?
Thank you.

I'm not sure but I think it may be because at the point you break the clip, there needs to be a definite end key for the previous clip and beginning key for the next one (the new one), since there is not one key for each frame (as you may find in mocap data).  Normally, iClone would interpolate between two key frames but if these are (after the break) in two different clips, it no longer can. So I would assume that this is why the additional keys are added. If my assumption is correct then you should probably be grateful that these keys are automatically added, otherwise you would presumably run into all kinds of problems.

This is exactly what I was expecting would happen; A single keyframe added on each "end" of the newly created clips for each part in the character. e.g. For the right-hand clip, a keyframe at its beginning that matched the corresponding "end" keyframe in the left-hand clip.
Instead, it appears a portion of the clip around the break is being flattened.

Create a key at the point of break first.

That worked! Thank you (again!)
I had actually tried doing the break on an existing keyframe (prior to posting) but it didn't work (still had massive number of KFs being added).
The first time I tried your suggestion it didn't work either, but then I zoomed in as far as possible on the timeline to ensure I was breaking exactly on the new key frame, and then it worked.

I think the problem is that after you set the timeline position on the keyframe, you have to right click on the clip "header" to get the "break" popup menu. Unfortunately, right clicking on that header to show the popup also sets the timeline position (why???), and if you "miss" then you're going to get the mess I saw.

Switch OFF Auto-Align Playhead in Preferences at will to have it stay where you scrub it.
Unfortunately there is no shortcut key to trigger it ON/OFF I think...

Yes. That option does the trick for the pop-up menu scenario but the ability to position the playhead at a specific keyframe by clicking on it is lost (thus, I guess, your remark about having a shortcut key to enable/disable).

Best solution, imho, would be to NOT move the playhead on anything related to the right mouse button (currently, the playhead gets repositioned on right-mouse-button-up). Can't think of a scenario where that's desirable.
