Live Sync between iClone and Omniverse (Beta)

The features include:
- real-time preview of iClone editing changes (characters, props, light, camera) in Omniverse and full-frame character animations transferred to Omniverse.
- send Ominverse scenes and props to iClone as editing reference and have characters seamlessly aligned with the environment.

Basic Introduction:

The iClone Connector Live Sync: Beta Manual includes the following information:
  • Tools Required for Installation
  • New iClone Connector Menu Options for Ver 8.1
  • User Interface
  • Asset Support
Internal Test Video:
Note: These videos were recorded during the development period.  The user interfaces are different for the Beta program.
  • Basic Examples
Apply animation to live-preview (Preview Link) and transfer animation to Omniverse Data Transfer

  • Live preview (Preview Link): edit motion layer

  • Live preview in path-traced mode (high-end graphics will give a good performance, eg., RTX 3080 x 2 ).

  • Live preview: Motion Director (crowd and camera switch)

  • Use Cases
Case - 1: Transfer characters in batches and then transfer all animations to Omniverse.

Case - 2 : (More complicated) If you have already had the USD scene and cameras, and just need to transfer the iClone characters,

Step 1: Set up the USD work file, and then build the Live Sync connection.
    • a. Setup the main work file (USD), drag the USD scene into this work file.
    • b. Import USD camera and mesh to iClone.

Step 2: Transfer characters and animations to Omniverse.

Known Issues :

This beta program has not been through the full testing process by Reallusion; there might be lots of defects and limitations in this version. If you have discovered any defects, please report back to the Feedback Tracker.

Some operations will not Live Preview in Omniverse
synchronously (to be fixed in a later release):
  • Constraint-related: You'll need to adjust the Timeline or the playhead to refresh Props with Follow Path applied in Omniverse.

  • Constraint-related: If you've moved the target object of Look at constraints, then you'll need to adjust the Timeline or the playhead to refresh the character in Omniverse.

  • Other: If you've started and stopped Motion Director > Macro Data > Preview on a character, then it'll likely jump back to its original spot. You'll also need to adjust the Timeline or the playhead to refresh the character in Omniverse.

Level of support for Live Sync > Props: Current beta Live Sync only supports static meshes.
  • (Current limitation) Skeletal mesh can't Live Preview and transfer animations:

  • (Current limitations & workaround) The structure of props with sub-nodes differs slightly between Omniverse and iClone.
The correct sub-node will need to be selected, otherwise, the data streamed back to iClone will take no effect or bring about abnormalities with Live Sync.
    • Improper selection of the sub-node results in a faulty data stream back to iClone:

As of this moment, Export USD data structure has not been rectified as parent nodes are automatically generated (see the following image). Consequently, using the exported USD file with Live Sync can lead to some unexpected outcomes, e.g., not reflecting edits with Live Update. No matter if it's a prop, character, camera, or light, it's always recommended to use the Beta version for transfer to Omniverse, then one can reliably establish a Live Sync link.

Has anyone tested vector displacement from iClone to Omniverse? There is VDM support in iClone and can see it with Iray but I'm concerned about transferring projects to render in Omniverse, I can't find any examples or written information on Vector Displacement.
