Is there any downside to using my existing IC7's content directories for installing IC8? or should I just start fresh with IC 8 content, and copy the old stuff in over time?

You can watch this Tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgYVOalKD0AIC8&CC4 can access your IC7 & CC3 template folder. You don't need to re-download them.

To answer my own question now that I've experimented with this, I think it's better in the long run to just copy your content into iclone 8's folders. In the long run, iclone 8 does a much better job of syncing CC and iclone content, so it only complicates things in the long run if you sync it in a legacy way. I would imagine the only case you would want to keep a legacy situation is if you created a complicated folder library that you are used to.

Also be aware that once opened in iClone 8 your custom content may no longer be openable (if that's a word) in iClone 7. IC8 performs some kind of conversion which would make it incompatible with IC 7. This is from past experience, going from IC6 to IC7, so I assume it may be the same with IC8. I'm just gradually transferring my custom content, which gives my also a change to do some rearranging and "weeding".
