Good News!  the "Motion Retargeting" function has been added to Omniverse Machinima and Omniverse Create!  We have provided the Hotfix version for iClone and Character Creator.  Please refer to this post for the Hotfix information, download instructions, release notes,  and known issues.

1. Hotfix Info:
A Hotfix version is available to maximize compatibility with Motion Retargeting in Machinima 2022.1.0 and Create 2022.1.0 and above. The differences with the previous versions are demonstrated below.

Using CC Neutral Female as the basis and applying Motion Retargeting to "Katherine" and a toon character:
  • Two characters to the left: Under the current version (IC7.93 and CC3.44), the character's feet do not touch the ground - either floating or intercepting with the ground plane.
  • Two characters to the right: Under the Hotfix version, the character's feet are planted on the ground plane.

2. Release Notes - The following adjustments were made to make it possible to export data that supports Omniverse Motion Retargeting:
  • Adjusted the export character's A-pose to T-pose (when Include Motion is unchecked).
  • Applied error correction to characters that carry animation so they no longer float in mid-air.
The following image compares CC3.44 with the Hotfix version (with Include Motion disabled in the Export USD menu).
  • Left side: CC3.44 character is floating in mid-air.
  • Right side: Hotfix version export in T-pose - the character's feet are planted on the ground plane.

iClone's Export USD window does not have the Include Motion checkbox.  Therefore, characters exported to Omniverse Create or Machinima with animations removed will have the same result as CC 3.44, in that characters will revert to the A-pose and float in mid-air.

Removing the animation returns the character to a T-pose in IC7.93 Hotfix:

3. Version: Please use Machinima version 2022.1.0 and Create 2022.1.0 and above in order to launch and use Omniverse Motion Retargeting.

4. How to Install?

Important Notice: This Hotfix only updates the executables (iClone.exe and CharacterCreator.exe) for IC7.93 and CC3.44.

1) Update to the latest version of Reallusion Hub in order to access the Hotfix.

2) Make a backup of the iClone 7 and Character Creator 3 executables (*.exe) within their respective install paths.
Take the default path for example:
  • C:\Program Files\Reallusion\Character Creator 3\Bin64
  • C:\Program Files\Reallusion\iClone 7\Bin64

3) Download the Hotfix version

4) Unzip the Hotfix and copy the EXE file to the install path. Subsequent program launches will start this executable instead.
Note: To revert back to the previous executable just re-use the backup from step 2.

5. Known Issues & Current Limitations

Omniverse Limitations:

* The Animation Clip in the current version of Omniverse Machinima is still unable to perform transition blending. Motion clip blending should be performed in iClone and then sent to Omniverse applications.

* Extending the animation in Machinima does not have smooth transition between multiple motion clips (shown in the following video).
When the robot character is moving forward and the same walking motion is applied again, the robot does not walk from the end-point of the previous walk cycle animation.  Instead, the robot returns to the original starting point of the animation.
As a workaround, we recommend first chaining the motions in iClone, then export the entire animation in the USD format to Omniverse.
