So just like many people around the world, 2020 was an absolutely horrible year for me. Between my own health going tits up for a bit and several tragedies hitting my family back to back, I would likely end up putting a therapists kids through college if I ever decided to go that route. Unfortunately I'm broke, so I turned to my artwork as a form of therapy. So here's the rub... I was on the road for months dealing with some of the unfortunate effects of the past year's shenanigans and sadly didn't have my full computer rig with me, so I gave myself a challenge. I wanted to see how polished the results I could produce with nothing more than Character Creator 3, Headshot and only free software such as GIMP, Materialize, Daz Studio and Blender. I was a little out of my comfort zone, not being able to use my regular ZBrush and Substance pipeline, but I actually think the results came out a bit of alright, obviously some better than others, but as my practice progressed, so did the quality of the results. I let you lot be the judges...
I decided to do several renders of characters from some of my favorite films...
San De - "The 36th Chamber of Shaolin"
The Joker - "The Dark Knight"
Roy Batty - "Blade Runner"
Nico Toscani - "Above the Law"
Moon - "Double Impact"
Conan - "Conan the Barbaian"
Jack Burton - "Big Trouble in Little China"
I'll say this much though, as therapeutic as this challenge may have been, I definitely prefer having all of my tools available to me... good exercise though.
Hopefully all of you are staying healthy... cheers!
