Having messed around with CC3 and Blender for entirely too long, I thought it was time to put everything together and make a complete character with outfit, get it into Blender and try to produce some renders. I wanted to incorporate as many different things as possible in the process from creating and texturing clothing, hard surfaces, sculpting cloth and painting in 3d. The outfit is quite simplistic as I didn't want to overcomplicate things. I also tried to make my own hair for the character too, but I kind of sucked at that part so for now I'm using SWAM - Romantic Tail Hair, which is the closest to what I had intended.

So this is my first complete character using CC3, this was all done in CC3 and Blender. I've named her Rose, here's a few Eevee renders of her, see what you think:

(These renders are rendered in 4k and scaled down to 2k. I'm using fairly low power 3 point lighting with various HDRI's as the ambient light source.)

Nice work, did you do some extra work on textures in blender? I'm trying to go this same path but I find my characters do look more plastic in blender than they do in CC3/iClone, I've been trying to adapt the textures, used eevee and cycles, tried with more samples but still can't get the more authentic look I see on iRay into blender

I'm using the textures 'as is' from the export from CC3 and I make use of most of them, but... In my node setup in blender for the skin shaders I try to reproduce the shader parameters of the CC3 materials. If you look at the materials settings in CC3 for the skin, eyes and hair, there's a whole raft of parameters in the 'shader settings' sections, and these parameters can seriously affect the end result. e.g. The specular masks are scaled down to 40% and almost none of the micro normals and blend normals are applied at full strength.

The micro normals make quite a difference, even when you're so far zoomed out so that they aren't really visible and mixing the base colour into the sub-surface colour goes a long way to preventing the plastic look.

In the end I came up with these skin shaders: (The image uploader keeps squishing the image size so I've cut it into two parts, hopefully you can still see it clearly.)

Head Shader

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/48060fa7-fb46-4522-a5c7-ea7b.jpg

I can explain the reasoning behind all of it, but there's a lot to cover and it would probably need it's own thread.

The red value input nodes with the all caps names are my attempt at the shader parameters. I've labelled where a couple of the parameters are slightly different for the head/body/arms/legs. The head and body have different shaders because the head has a few extra textures, a base colour blend and normal blend, and the head is the only part with a specular map and metallic map.

Also, don't forget to turn on subsurface translucency in the materials settings.

My eye shader, however, is a horrific spaghetti nightmare and I really need to clean it up first before I let anyone see it.

(Edit: forgot to add head shader)
