Is there a way to export the color ID maps of clothes and accessories from CC3 to Substance Painter? When the appearance editor is enabled, color ID shows as a texture under mesh data, but the color ID is not an actual texture exported with the character. Also, in CC3, you used to be able to enable the color IDs so that they would show on the character's clothes in real time, but this option does not seem to work any more. With "Use Inputs" and "Enable" checked under mesh data, the color IDs are not shown on the character. Is there a new way to enable these?

Here is one way to do it (I don't know if it's the official way).

The Appearance Editor now has three tabs (Skin, Makeup, and Outfits).

Select you clothing item and then select Outfits. You will see an option to launch the Appearance Editor.

If the clothing has Substance materials, then the material will be listed. If there is nothing there, then the AE cannot be used.

With the AE opened, click Diagnostics, check Enable, and then select Color ID from the dropdown. The colors will show up on the clothing. This is shown here for a pair of boots.

Close the Appearance Editor. The colors will remain assigned and show as Base Color texture under Materials:

Open the Material panel. Select the Base Color texture and then click Launch. This will open the texture in your graphics editor.

Reopen the Appearance Editor and uncheck Enable for Diagnostics. This will restore the regular material.

Hi animagic, That worked perfectly! Thanks so much for the tips and detailed explanation.

I kept trying to launch the color ID map within the appearance editor and couldn’t figure out how to convert it to a texture. Using your feedback, I was able to launch it and export it as a texture file.

I can now also see the color ID maps on the character’s clothes by enabling the color ID map in the diagnostics tab.

Have a happy New Year!
