Any advice on when to lay down audio track? I have made the mistake of setting up my character several times only to lay down an audio track, change the motion and reset  the scene animation and lose the audio I have spent hours tweeking. Any way to separate audio from animation so as to not have this occur? Any help would be appreciated.

You can export audio:  Click  Render>Render Audio>Export.

To save the facial animation:
1. Click 'Collect Clip' in Timeline.
Mark the range (eg. frame 01 to 30) by right-click and drag the cursor.
2.  Right click the range and choose 'Export Facial Motion'.
