NVDIA IRay Boom or Bust?? I see very few new threads on the IRay render plugin. is anyone here using this engine for movie making??

I started to use Iray, and I noticed that for movies, using AO, GI, IBL with nativ renderer , good lighting , putting all parameters highest and ultradefinition is much better regarding a loooong loong time needed by Iray without even possibilities to use water, speedtrees, and popcorn. So I do no more use Iray

No, I do not use it as my normal iClone renderer.
Although I'm a fan of Iray in many ways, and I think iClone's Iray integration is well done, I recognize it is not practical for animations of any reasonable length.
iClone 7... Character Creator... Substance Designer/Painter... Blender... Audacity... Desktop (homebuilt) - Windows 10, Ryzen 9 3900x CPU, GTX 1080 GPU (8GB), 32GB RAM, Asus X570 Pro motherboard, 2TB SSD, terabytes of disk space, dual monitors. Laptop - Windows 10, MSI GS63VR STEALTH-252, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 (6GB), 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD

I started using it for one short movie, but because of problems with SpeedTrees (which are implemented but show artifacts at times), I decided to drop it. Unfortunately, RL has decided against further improvements this year. I do like the look I can achieve with Iray, so I have used it is a guide to improve lighting (including the use of emissive planes) in iClone for the native renderer. With care you can get quite far with that renderer.

For now, if they had it as part of a map baking paradigm for backgrounds this would be awesome, because Iray nails it for environments.
For future, and to echo what everyone else says, think it becomes more practical for animation as GPU tech evolves.
