Hi,

I'm quite new to Reallusion products and fairly new to modeling/animating in general since my main focus is usually system design in Unreal Engine, but my end-goal is to have a game-ready, animated mermaid in UE4.

I have a Daz3D mermaid, and access to other mermaid FBX files, but CC3's "transformer" won't accept the import since it's obviously a non-standard skeleton.

Question 1: Is CC3 totally out of the picture for non-bipedal characters, or is there a way to take advantage of its features (morphs and LOD generation) at any point in the process?

Question 2: I intend to purchase iClone and 3Dexchange for the animation phase, but will I end up running into the same issue with bringing in a non-standard Daz model? Will modifying the Daz skeleton in Maya make a difference?

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm excited to get on board with these cool Reallusion products!

CC3 isn't out of the question for mermaids -- for nearly ALL mermaids that Daz sells it works just fine.

You just have to know how to do it.  You can watch my videos, but if you tell me EXACTLY the mermaid you want to use from Daz I'll do a video with that particular one.  In the meantime, here's a mermaid with the Callie (Gen 2) figure (even comes in with the morphs needed to move the tail):

Thanks for the response. I'm realizing that I definitely posted this in the wrong section of the forum.
I'm trying to use the Lorelei Mertail, but the two issues are that the legs won't hide when conformed to a Gen 8 Female and also CC3 won't accept an import.

That's okay -- we can continue the discussion here.

You most likely need to see my video on importing things that, in Daz, auto hide structures.  That should help with your second part, and the video then also explains how you can hide the legs in CC3.

If you still can't get it after watching this, let me know and I'll see if I can do one on that particular Daz product you're using.

I'm also struggling to get non-human characters (and geografts in general) into iClone via 3dxchange. Specifically, I'm finding that there are visible seams where the geografts join to the base mesh, and geoshells are actually offset slightly on the Y axis. Here's an example of the seams:

And here's the weird geoshell offset:

Any ideas?

Kellytoons, your videos are great, but I'm still running into a brick wall on this. Purchased around $600 of Reallusion pipeline products, but it looks like I'll end up having to re-skin and keyframe animate everything in Maya to do what I want. That being said, I'll pay decent money to anyone who can show me how to get DAZ's Lorelei Mertail to work with Gen 8 figures.

Sorry I can't help -- I'm no Daz expert (I can get the tail into CC3 so it will fit any character there, but I can't help you in Daz).

The tail also seems not to have any actual movement morphs anyway, or at least that I can find (again, no Daz expert).  So it doesn't seem all that useful anyway.

Okay, got the tail correctly morphed into iClone and although I clearly have no idea how to animate anyone swimming this shows it can easily work with any CC3 character (so if you wanted to just move some Gen 8 character in you can use the tail on her.  Or him).

I think there are better tails in Daz, though.

Okay, you can send the check to: Me, c/o Kelleytown.  Leave the amount blank, please.
