I have some confusion about clothing assets from avatars in iClone.

I saw that iClone 7.4 in the Avatars tab, there are several avatars from previous generations of iClone with different outfits. For instance Mason in a cardigan, etc.

If I can, I'd love to use the wardrobe / clothing from those older avatars on newer characters I'm making in Character Creator. But I can't seem to do that.

I tried to open those Avatars in Character Creator (I only have the first version of CC) but I got an error message saying that CC could only open CC characters. But these are iAvatar files. I thought CC can open those?

Any suggestions much appreciated!

CC can only open CC characters which are iAvators of a specific generation (post-G6 basically).

However, you can use the clothing by exporting them as an OBJ file, which you can then import into CC.

I have to do some research as to the steps, but I have do this with even older clothing and it worked. There is indeed a treasure trove of older clothing that can now be tapped.

EDIT: It's bit more involved than I thought, but it IS possible because I've done it.

OK, the summarized steps are as follows:

1. In 3DXchange, export the clothing as OBJ file.

2. Import the OBJ file as Accessory in CC (Create => Accessory).

3. Follow further instructions as per the manual: http://manual.reallusion.com/Character_Creator_3/ENU/3/Content/Character_Creator_3/3/08_Cloth/Creating_Custom_Clothes_OBJ.htm.

Here is a converted Mason sweater on a Hivewire character (Dusk):
