Looking into getting a new phone. I want to make sure the vivo nex 2 will be supported before I pick one up. It seems to have the required ToF depth sensor for 3d scans.

Does anyone know? I remember on one of the old LIVE FACE videos it said they would be adding more devices as they became available. As far as I know this is the first Non-Apple phone which has a front depth camera sensor.

Obviously it's a LOT more than just any device that has a 3D camera -- the software needs to be written for it.  They support any iOS device because that's the code that's written.

I'm not saying that won't do this, but I wouldn't look for it any time soon (if ever).

What is not clear from the description is how much processing of the image is carried out. For the iPhone that is a lot, taking most of the processing necessary for Mocap away from the CPU.

With a new device like the Vivo it also a matter of how much market share they have to see if it is worthwhile for RL to invest in development.

Lastly, the prices I saw for the Vivo are not much different from what you would pay for an iPhone XR, which is a proven solution currently. I'm not an Apple fan, but one has to be practical.

As I posted last year, unlikely it will be soon (so read that as -- it will never happen).

Stick with the iPhone.
