Hi guys: 
I play a lot of tactical and strategic  wargames and one of my absolute favorites is Shogun2 by Sega and Creative Assembly. The opening
sequence to the game is an incredibly sweet combination of 2D and 3D animations and I thought those who haven't seen it would
enjoy it.
Not only does it have a smooth transition from 2D to 3D but it's also has a beautiful combat scene in which a symbolic change of weather takes place.
I think the entire video is extremely clever. I just wish I could animate like this. Maybe if I'd started 40 years earlier.
