Tackling the 'tricky' materials when importing iClone Alembic files into Blender 2.8. Hopefully this tutorial will help you 'understand' the process and subsequent Alembic imports will only take you 10 - 15 mins to reassign the materials. FBX and OBJs will import fully textured, but with your new found skills you'll find yourself converting them to the more efficient "Principled BSDF" shader. My next video will show off Blender's eevee render (and cycles too)... stay tuned!

Well I've been staying tuned, but feel bad not having taken the time to work through this latest tutorial. Been re-vamping a set (finding all sorts of nasty 'reversed faces') from when first constructing it earlier this year. Anyway, I just wanted to bring this thread up because I know Mark goes to a lot of effort to make these tutorials available on this forum.

Thanks Steve! Now, if you were building your scene in Blender you could hit "tab, a, shift n, tab" to make normals consistent - just sayin'! ;-)

Jarret ... The ability to export in alembic format is enabled by 3DXChange - (Pipeline version, not the Pro version), as outlined here: Source: https://www.reallusion.com/iclone/pipeline.html

Well I have 3dxchange pipeline 6 and 3dxchange pro 7. I just can’t believe it will cost 300$ to upgrade...I hope I can get by with pipeline 6 though it says no PBR export with that one. But if that’s what it’s going to take to have the least amount of work going into blender then it will have to do.
