A simple test fails with 3DXchange v7.3

Hi,

I create a simple box in blender, export as fbx, 3ds, obj. (trying many fileformats)
Open them up in 3DXchange v7.3, all looks good, export the 3 different files as iProp.
Neither of them behaves well when adding a material to them, standard or pbr, either of the files,
just get a strange color or the mesh/model/box gets all semi transparant.
If I adjust the material setting in any way, not much happens.

Am I missing something really obvious here?

I also created a floor and a wall with a rectangular cutout in Blender, 3DS was the only format that
showed two different objects in 3DXchange v7.3 (floor & wall).
Exported as iProp,
mesh looked good in iClone. Two separate objects in materials (floor &wall).
Then I tried to add materials, it made the mesh transparant sometimes and sometimes nothing happened at all.

I am thankful for any suggestions or tips!

Most likely a normals or face issue -- try flipping them (you can do that in XChange) and see if it makes any difference (you can also try adding 2-sided materials to them -- or both).

Are the cubes uv mapped? If not, they can't be textured . Only the base colour can be changed.

Hi Kelleytoons,

I created a new box in blender, saved as fbx. Opened it in 3DXchange v7.3.
I used the flip button and then exported as iProp.
In iClone I could add some simple materials and a few PBR materials, but most
of the PBR materials just made the whole box invert and the faces to offset from eachother.


Then I went back to 3DXchange v7., and started to play with Flip Face Mode, but I couldn't
really see what was happening and I couldn't see the normals even though I tried adjusting Normal length.

And the version of 3DXchange v7.3 is a trial version so I know only have 7 exports left Sad

Since iClone isn't a 3D modeling software I really would wan't to use Blender for modeling simple props and more
advanced interiors/exteriors  and export to iClone via 3DXchange v7.3.
In iClone I really do want too use all the PBR materials i bought.

Hmm I must be missing something here, in this case it is a simple box, how hard can it be? Wink

Thanks again for your reply, do you have any other ideas or suggestions?

Yes they are UV mapped, and after the  flip function in 3DXchange v7.3 some
materials worked, and even a few PBR ones, very few.

As a rule XChange works far better with OBJs from Blender than FBX.  Try that and see.
