When I am adding lights to a scene, lights have to be created one at a time, which is a pain.

If the holding the ctrl key when you move copied a light worked it would save a lot of time.

Who made the decision to not make lights copyable like other props, and why didn't someone with some sense override this horrible decision?

Thanks

Well until someone rethink and re-decide Smile you can attach the light to a prop and clone the prop instead, then detach and delete the prop.
I know not the best way to handle it, but that is the only way for now (at least you can have them uniformly aligned)

Good news. Spot Lights and Point Lights can be copied using CTRL + Move in iClone 7.3. Smile

Because a light is NOT a prop...Tongue

Also, initially, iClone had only a limited number of lights, so it was not much of a problem.

And, you can just ask politely if you want a change...Unsure

Peter just posted that this "issue" is solved in iClone 7.3.

Thank you for the update.

Any timeframe on when 7.3 will be out? Is CC3 still supposed to be Q3? We are rapidly approaching Q4.

Thanks

CC3 = "Q3"
iC7.3 = "Q4"

It's always best to assume that means the afternoon of the last day of the quarter... and that's if there's no slippage.

iClone 7... Character Creator... Substance Designer/Painter... Blender... Audacity...

General rule: We, forum dwellers, don't know anything more than anybody else...Tongue

Seriously though, if there is a hard and fast date (as there has been sometimes in the past) and there is slippage, we wouldn't hear the end of it. RL would be accused of fraud and misleading customers; the software developers should all be fired, etc, etc...Crazy

RL is in the business of creating animation software and in doing so, keeping the business going so that it doesn't go belly up or being snatched up by the likes of Apple (Sick )  Many promising technology companies have had that fate in the past, and we don't want that to happen. If you've pre-ordered the enhancements (CC3 Pipeline, Iray), you're helping with the cash flow (developers need to eat, live somewhere, perhaps have families), which is a good thing. You will get your upgrade close to the promised time.

We went through that cycle here on the forum already.  People blasted RL just as you described.  So naturally RL stopped sharing their plans.  Some people forget that "plans" are not "contracts" and are subject to change.

A number of months ago, RL got brave again and shared a "Roadmap" for 2018.  Although the notional dates have definitely slipped, most of their plans ("intentions") have largely stayed intact.  I think it is really good to have a feel for what they're working on, and also what is off the table.  Sadly, a disturbing number of people forget to behave like adults as plans change, and it spoils it for the rest of us.

I am not talking about the people who are anxious, excited, and impatient, or even somewhat annoyed.  There really were some unreasonably outraged people the last time RL had some plans that didn't work out, so like I said, their reluctance to communicate product plans was frustrating, but understandable.

So... September?  I would hope that by now RL knows if it will be this week, or closer to mid or late October, and that they would let us know sooner rather than later, but I guess we'll find out pretty soon either way.

BOTTOM LINE:  The last they've said (through Peter) is that they're still targeting "September."
