Anyway, RL - include an Audacity plugin to iClone, and if it holds up future PBR realtime rendering enhancements and process improvements, blame everyone else but me, because it was their idea to use Audacity, not mine.
THX!

It's not my idea to use Audacity. The reason to oppose audio tools within iClone is that it would open another can of worms and reasons for complaints. If you don't use an NLE (which could be free as well), you probably don't need audio tools.

Outside of adding voices to your characters, additional audio tools in iClone would really be a waste of precious program resources. I'd like to think our fellow creators here who have enough juice in their machines to use this software most surely should have an NLE. It's not like we're doing this work on our PHONES and really need additional audio tools. I use Adobe suite, but there are countless others. PLEASE - Don't give RL any ideas!! lolLaugh   ~V~

It's your idea to use Vegas, then?  So everyone should pay a premium, for that?

My idea is that iClone has simple tools such as expanded use of different file types beyond .WAV, and even simple audio tools like panning, basic EQ.
A more advanced version could be a plugin that is integrated to a multi-track audio tool for more direct incorporation into iClone, without the need for a premium soft like Vegas!

I find Audacity to be more-than adequate for my audio needs.  And "free" is a great bonus.

For most iClone projects, the NLE needs are quite basic:
- Add clips (scenes)
- Trim some footage
- Almost all transition are simple cuts, followed by some fades.  "Fancy" transitions are rarely used.
- The ability to add and control some audio clips (fancy stuff like echo, noise reduction, equalizer work can all be done in Audacity)
- Scrolling titles

I use Pinnacle Studio for my NLE needs, mostly because that is the one I started with over 10 years ago.  It's very reasonably priced, and I only use about 2% of its capability.

iClone 7... Character Creator... Substance Designer/Painter... Blender... Audacity...
Desktop (homebuilt) - Windows 10, Ryzen 9 3900x CPU, GTX 1080 GPU (8GB), 32GB RAM, Asus X570 Pro motherboard, 2TB SSD, terabytes of disk space, dual  monitors.
Laptop - Windows 10, MSI GS63VR STEALTH-252, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 (6GB), 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD

My suggestion is to use an NLE; not necessarily Vegas. There are free ones available.

If the primary functionality of iClone was perfect, it might warrant consideration, but there is still enough to do in that area. I rather have RL focus on iClone's visual quality so that there isn't a need to use all kinds of external rendering solutions, which is far more of a hassle (and costly too with the need for export licenses) than doing audio externally.

Just download and use Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 15 - NLE, DAW, full grading and a Compositor all in one package - and to suit your requirements it's FREE. CoolSmoooothSmile

....
Already can imagine
1) Pro-Production output,
2) Next Level PBR,
3) Scene Building tools (like a Mix-Moves, but for the whole entire scene...),
4) more advanced Audio features,
5) destructible physic environments,
and....
6) Volumetric Simulations
.....

The whole audio thing came from the above list where I was thinking of possible iC8 enhancements.
Okay, so plugin to DaVinci Resolve could be a part of #4, along with the simple panning and EQ enhancement I was thinking of.  LOL...I wasn't even thinking NLE, but you guys keep mentioning it!
That just leaves 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6!

#1 would be higher-bit rendering and export processing.  (I know Octane does EXR for that higher level)
#2 add in channels for SSS, further blending modes, shader-types, and Post Processing features
#3 some way to organize and arrange content so that scene building moves faster, maybe a node-based map-out of the scene
#5 some easier ability to set props as destructible
#6 do stuff like Unity and Unreal did to have PBR volume features/effects

Well, by this logic then your, and JAV's, idea of a network renderer, is equally not as important as bettering the visual quality.
