I bought both the Substance Painter and the Substance Designer yesterday, But today I am pretty leery about trying out Substance Painter at least.

I am running an Asus 1080ti and would not expect to have to worry about long computation renders, but when Painter comes up I am commanded to go to regedit, to go directly to regedit, not to pass Go and certainly not to collect $200, but there to change or install a couple of new variables in the Tdr section of the Graphics Drivers.

I checked around the web and found a great deal of chatter, pleas for help, howls of wrath etc on the subject of Substance Painter crashes. There were also plenty of messages telling me that the regedit fixes did not work.

Now I think RL has probably reached the stage when it can lean on third parties like Allegorithmic and insist that they sort this out. By the time I am writing this I notice that several other iCloners have bought the software. I hope they let us know how they are getting on.

Of course, if this turns out to be a 1080ti problem then my humble apologies, but it seems to date back to 2015, So I do wish before making a cheap offer RL would have someone check the web for problems related to software.

Yeah, I don't have the ti but I do have the 1080 and got the same warning -- but I think *everyone* gets that warning.

I ignored it and SP works just fine.

I use The Nvidia Titan X Pascal and also get the TDR warning with Painter and about changing registry response time adjustments to make.
I am not one to go messing about in the registry.

I have a GTX 1080, and do not recall ever needing to edit my registry or getting that message, but I sure have seen it numerous times in the Substance forums.

They have a lonely "iClone" area in their forums, but the problem you're having is not iClone-specific.
Head to the specific Painter or Designer "Product Support" area for help.  I'll see if I can find a good post for you to reference.

You don't have to change anything, anywhere.

Can you explain the crash problems that you are experiencing?

I used to get that on my laptop.  I just did the registry hack to stop it.  Simple enough to do.

 Hi Gerry,
Thanks for that.

As yet I am not experiencing any crashes, But then I haven't tried out the Painter!

I just have a deep paranoia about computers, carefully cherished across the years.

So I thought it best to bring the matter to your attention, all of you.

Many thanks for all the feedback from everybody.

Believe me, it helps.

Sean Mac.

Hi justaviking

Thanks for that.

Yeah - I saw the second website you pointed to but not the first, There is a lot of frankly distressing dtiff on the allegorithmic forums especially concerning what looks like an Aorus 1080ti.

Some good stuff on Tom's Hardware site.

Regards

Sean Mac
