Here are some more Faceware for iClone - Facial MoCap tests:

For the first one I just concentrated on the eye movement to create a more lifelike animation.

The second one includes a bit more "acting" by myself based on Willem Dafoe's voice from Spider-Man (2002).

not to nitpick but you could do that with the face tool
in 1/3rd the time it took in faceware and probably
have a better result.

I am doing "faceware" for several weeks now and I can asure you, there is no way to get a result like this with face puppet and face key. If you put a unreasonable amount of time in creating this facial animation without "faceware, maybe you can get close.

Yes, I agree with Direx. I think a pro-level animator could create great (and even better) looking results using keyframe/curve editor animation in iClone. But it would keep him/her busy for a long time. Unfortunately I never mastered face-puppet & face key in a way that I was satisfied with the final results. The main challenge is always the "Timing" - set movements of the different muscles at the right time, so that the overall animation looks fine. You have to be very patient and focussed. Faceware helps a lot to create the base animation and timing. My examples are by far not perfect yet and I also could invest a lot more time tweaking the little details afterwards and make it really smooth. But it's always a question of time.

Toko -- your examples are great, and I love how *some* folks say you don't need Faceware but can't show anything that approaches what you can do with it.

(Still waiting for your generalized kid morphs, though :>Wink.

Hahaha!! Love it Toko!!

Do you think that the new CC3 will help  to get more precise morphs/blendshapes ?

Thanks very much KT and Marc.

I still have the generalized kid morphs on my to-do list, but as the release of CC3 is close I stopped all current developments of morphs, clothes etc. I will do my best to have new stuff ready together with the official launch of CC3 (even I don't have any precise information when this will beWink). The new version will have much better features for developers and will also help to create more convincing animations. I'm as impatient as you to finally start working with it BigGrin.

Am going to go on record and say that *if* you can get a Faceware recording done in one pass, with no further editing, it will in fact, on a timeline, be faster.  And I would say the reverse, it would be 1/3 of the time needed to do a FaceKey/Puppet tool animation.

But then on the flip, yes, many times you do in fact need to re-do, and pre-tweak a take before you can actually get the result you want.  In theory, then yes, it *could* take longer.  The boy's face is totally passable as either FaceKey or Faceware.  But the second with the monster guy is likely much more work with Facekey

But here is the greatness of Faceware - you do one take, with errors.  FAST.  Then - you fix them not by redoing the take with Faceware, but by using the Face-Key/Puppet tool.
So, this is the power.  You can, yes, compare them on which is faster....however also imagine combining them to get a fantastic result!

My "on the record" is just the opposite, Tony -- I've *NEVER* been able to improve or even do anything different with the face key stuff.  But the Faceware capture is all I've needed.

Again, I'd like to see someone show me using ONLY the face edit keys they've gotten similar results (with lip sync, of course).  The examples I've seen prove anything but.
