Let me add my appreciation for your work, Dennis. The textures are quite lovely.

When I came to the US, I discovered that the word "toilet", quite common in decadent Europe, is frowned up on. So I had to learn to ask for the bathroom or restroom (washroom in Canada) and look for bathroom tissue in the store. Fortunately, I found what I needed before major accidents....Tongue

I know there have been a couple of "movie making" threads and such, but I wasn't sure where best to share this, so I decided the easist thing was to stick it in here.

People have often mentioned the VALUE OF GOOD SOUND in iClone projects.
Here an interview with a visual effects artist who says the same thing.
I thought it was interesting that, even as a VFX specialist, he is passionate about the value of good sound.

This should start at 42:12... but apparently videos embedded in the post don't honor that.
You can manuall jump there, or utilize the line below.

Thanks for the headsup. Interesting. Especially as regards how to pick out a poorly made video and the importance of good audio,

A severe lack of movies being produced on my computers.

A bit of Blender, Substance Designer, Substance Painter...

Making some simple props, but hopefully with a reasonable level of quality.
I consider this a "medium" quality prop in my opinion.  You can see the facets, especially on the table top, so not "high," and definitely not a "hero" prop.
But I'm reasonably happy with the "bronze" materials I made.  For some reason, the circular on was much more trouble than I anticipated.

I'm making a couple other objects, and the bronze material is a much closer match on those reference pictures.  I actually had fantastic match of this table's base, but it was the result of a fair amount of tweaking in Substance Painter, and I decided I didn't want different materials for objects that "should" be part of a matching set.

@Mark - I'm glad you appreciated the simple table.

Here is a test of a carpet Substance I'm working on:
a) There is repetition in the carpet, but it is a cheap, repeating hotel carpet in real life.  There are actually "carpet squares" seams in the real floor, but I have a feeling it would look too much like "bad modeling" if I put some of them in.  I did overlay a Blend image to provide some non-repeating variation.
b) My little table looks very little.  Sadly, I didn't measure the original table with a tape measure, but by using two different points of reference, both my son and I are convinced that the table really is that small.  It is just a little side-table that was beside the lounging chair in the hotel room.  Look at my reference image in my previous post.  To the left, that bit of blue is the box spring from the bed, and though the mattress is not shown in that picture, you can imagine that the table top is at about the same height as the mattress.  So looking at the 10-second point in my video, you can see that the table is about the right size

Definitely need to view in HD (1920x1080).

...and the wall.

The height difference between the base and the plateau surfaces seems a bit high in the render, and some of my details seem to be washed out.  I'll have to make adjustments.

I'm sure this sounds as exciting as watching paint dry, but I finished updating my "textured wall" substance, and I'm ridiculously pleased with it.

It didn't take me long to create it, but then I gradually exposed more and more parameters, and of course fine-tuned a couple of details.  I spent at least half of my time testing it in iClone, and making a couple of sample videos where I keyframed some of the parameters.

Adjustable parameters include:
- Pebbles in the low areas
- Pebbles on the plateaus
- Streak intensify (strength)
- Streak sharpness (blur)
- Various "level" settings
- Overall roughness
- Roughness (additional shininess) on the plateaus
- Color

Gotta get back into working with the substance creater tool. I have started looking into it a few times but keep getting distracted by other things.
I see it as a way of creating good texturing without having to be a great artist and that suits me. I think we do need to be reasonable but not highly expertal as artists.
Anyway, just wanted to say I like what you have done.
