What would be the best tool at this time for creating characters for CTA3 at this time and for near future? Recommendations or opinions?

I realized there are templates for Flash (now Animator CC), and DrawPlus (now Affinity), but with both programs having changed over the years, and CTA3 being new, I'm wondering which would be the best route to go. My preference would be Affinity for cost and perhaps ease (assuming that works with the DrawPlus template), but I do have access to Animator CC for next 9 months. Or I can just by DrawPlus (discontinued for $25).?

Thanks for thoughts...

if you want to make G3 Character and have the pipeline version  . I can high recommend Clip Studio . It is a amazing Drawing Tool with psd Layer  Format and export
I have tested many Drawing Tool but this is the best of the best for me.
 http://www.clipstudio.net/en
I know from the RL description  in the near future you can import a whole Character as psd format . That mean you create komplett your character in Clipstudio and export it to CTA and you are ready for animating
,not more replace sprite necessary.

But if you want create G2 Character (pseudo 3D ) you should use Adobe Flash

 and ibis great Puppedproducer .

All other Solution e.g Draw Plus ... for G2 Character would be laborious and to time consuming

For G3 characters, any software that has support for .PSD files and can create drawing layers and folders should work. I use both Affinity photo (rather than Affinity Designer) and Clip Studio. Clip Studio has the edge because it supports vector layers allowing you to export your .PSD files at whatever resolution you need and they'll still look sharp. I imagine Affinity designer, which is a vector program, allows you to export to .PSD at any resolution too.

If you're interested in G2 character creation make use of that Animate CC access you have and get a copy of Puppet Producer Plugin. It's the fastest way to create a G2 character from scratch.

The G2 Character template for DrawPlus isn't useful for Affinity Designer because Designer cannot export to flash files like DrawPlus can. At the same time creating a G2 character in DrawPlus is a complete nightmare (I know because I've tried... it's the worst). Create them in Flash/Animate CC if you have that option - it's much quicker.

Note that CTA3 Pipeline currently doesn't support direct importing of .PSD character templates but that feature is not too far off from a release date. So any software you buy you'll want to know it does support .PSD exports.

Thanks all... sounds like I might want to try Clip Studio for G3 (better than DrawPlus option), and Animate CC for G2

G2 character is what I really want to make, but had hoped to use something other that Animate - because of licensing thing. I have CS3 Flash from way back, but I see the G2 template needs CS4 min.

Hi try this Krita
ablsolut free and great
Download here: https://krita.org/en/

I installed the program Krita and am very enthusiastic.
In the last few days, I've had a lot of tuts reingezogen, times to get an overview. Those who work with the CTA 3 should get the program. You have a huge selection of pencils and you can configure almost everything synonymous itself.
Then the extent of the plugins is absolutely great and what you do everything with the levels, I can not run here.
I especially like the one you can draw in the program with the mouse.
Very good tuts can be found here youtube.com.

Here is a small, simple example

The whole as PNG saved and in the CTA 3 fetched

Briefly animated with a background also drawn in Krita

For anyone following this; Clip Studio Pro and EX are 50-60% off until Monday Feb 27, 2017. Smith Micro has the best prices. Pro is $25, EX is $79.
   http://my.smithmicro.com/why-upgrade-to-clip-studio-paint.html
   http://www.clipstudio.net/en/purchase

I downloaded and checking out Krita, the free open source source one. It seems to be user friendly, but I haven't played with it long enough to see how it works out. I see it does weird soft fill like my old copy of Fireworks does, so I may download trial of Clip Studio or just buy it - the price is pretty good right now.

I'm still a bit novice at creating characters for CTA3 so I'm not sure I'm doing. I'm thinking the PSD import with March release from Reallusions will help a lot.
