PBR reads light data from IBL images and not from the scene, therefore IBL is of paramount importance to the PBR environment.
IBL provides PBR shaders not just specular highlights but also lighting information.
Using completely different IBL images can overhaul the lighting of the entire scene.
With the latest improvements to IBL coming in Character Creator 2.0 Beta, one can adjust PBR environments with ease.

IBL workflow can be separated into the following categories:

Visual UI Introduction

Character Creator 2.0 Beta Needs only one Image Based Lighting (IBL) image to provide High Dynamic Range (HDR) environment lighting for the ideal PBR visual quality.
Users can select an IBL image and adjust HDR light settings via the Visual panel.

Rotate the IBL to adjust the lighting direction

Use the hotkeys: Ctrl+/ to rotate the IBL image to adjust the lighting.
*Update: considering the usability for different types of keyboard, the hotkey may be changed to Shift + i in the official version.

Visaul panel ( F7 )

Press F7 to open the visual settings panel.

[A] Ambient Color
We recommend you set this to pure black ( #000000 ) so as to not interfere with the lighting.

[B] Activate IBL
Under normal circumstances, PBR should use IBL.

[C] IBL Image
This is where you load the HDRI image ( only support EXR or HDR formats )

[D] Adjust Color
This user interface is available under the Material Section for the following assets: Avatar, Cloth, Hair, Accessory, Sky and IBL

[E] Use sRGB
If one is using HDR or EXR formats, do not check this box because the these formats are in linear color-space.
Enable this when dealing sRGB images, for more information on linear workflow, read 1 - PBR Linear Workflow.

[F] Sync Sky Image
This is convenient for tweaking the lighting and the Sky prop together and for having a consistent lighting environment.

Sync to Sky

If one needs to link Sky with IBL Image settings then use the new Sync Sky Image feature.

  • Step 1: Enable Toolbar >https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/11bd6a67-26bb-4e8f-9e88-cc67.png , will popup the Atmosphere panel, double click to select an IBL image and press Apply to load it.
  • Step 2: After Sync Sky Image is enabled, the iSky will be driven by the IBL attributes, including Softness, Transformations, and Color adjustments.
