Hi there,

I'm examining my options for which bundles to purchase, keeping in mind that I may in the future want to add a Perception Neuron mocap rig to my system. If I get one of the bundles that include 3DXChange Pro, as opposed to 3DXChange Pipeline, will that work with the mocap rig? I noticed that all the Perception Neuron bundles include Pipeline, but it seems like overkill for me--I'm using iClone for previz and will not need to export characters or scenes to other engines. All I really want to be able to do is efficiently mocap a lot of animation as directly as possible into iClone to quickly mock up previz scenes.

To use Mocap itself you don't need 3DXchange; iClone is sufficient. 3DXchange only comes into play if you want to import characters from other applications (e.g., DAZ), which need to be converted. The FBX export function of 3DXchange (which requires Pipeline) is only needed if you want to export characters with animations for use in other applications such as game engines (Unity, Unreal).

I would recommend 3DXchange Pro in your case as it also allows you importing assets from 3DWarehouse, which is a good way to populate your scenes with props, buildings, etc.

Thanks, animagic! Good to know Pipeline isn't necessary for mocap.

And thank you too, budbundy--I've been wrestling with that question myself, wondering if there are scenarios where I might want FBX export. In my case it would likely be in order to export to some other tool in order to modify an asset and bring it back into iClone. I can't think of any specific scenarios, but it does seem like a possibility...
