I want to cast my actor's shadow on a box, which should not be visible in final render?
just want to see shadow on that box, not the box. is it possible?

thanks in advance.

Shadows can not be received by invisible objects. They also can't be cast on transparent objects.

This is not an iClone restriction, it also doesn't happen in the "real" world.

yes, but it does happen in the "cgi" world
a matte shadow option would make life so much easier for those that do compositing.

Sadly, the drop shadow is "lost functionality" when going from iC5 to iC6.

There are many cases where the ability to have a shadow appear on an invisible horizontal or vertical plane is very handy.  Any invisible object would be ideal, but basic planes would be a 95% solution.

If you put an avatar in font of a picture of a room, and you want the avatar's shadow to look like it's on the floor... this needs to be back in iC6.

iClone 7... Character Creator... Substance Designer/Painter... Blender... Audacity...
Desktop (homebuilt) - Windows 10, Ryzen 9 3900x CPU, GTX 1080 GPU (8GB), 32GB RAM, Asus X570 Pro motherboard, 2TB SSD, terabytes of disk space, dual  monitors.
Laptop - Windows 10, MSI GS63VR STEALTH-252, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 (6GB), 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD

@swOOOOOp
this is a iclone forum.... we are talking about doing this in iclone 6
i have no issues in other programs achieving this.
in iclone the only option seems to be neon green planes and a external chromakeyer app or plugin
which is problematic depending on the complexity of the scene and lighting.

so if you have a magical way to do it (in iclone6) feel free to post a tutorial

Totally agree, in fact iClone could do with a major overhaul in those areas, would love to see the following all added at the same time :

- Built-in Camera Tracking
- Shadow Catching
- Volumetric Particles
- Various map output types such as Depth, Height etc.

Such additions would put iClone's abilities on a whole new level!

the point here is to not have to use a chromakeyer just to get a shadow.,
i was just pointing out a workaround.

try this,   make the object you want invisible green.  film the shot 1nce without a shadow or item,    and the 2nd one with the object you want the shadow on,  paint it green. composite the 2 shots and chroma key out the green areas.

let me express my view:
iclone restriction? it happens everywhere, THE VERY FIRST SOLO FIGURE's RENDER IN DAZ3D WILL SHOW U.

real world? its not about real world, its about work and flow. the flow to accomplish task.
FYI nobody resize, grow old, has green hair, teleport. this is real world. and we all do this virtual world. and thats why so many skilled programmers keep on study.

sorry for finding me rude hmmm... Just Chill.

thank you guyz, matte shadow is new to me. i will look into it Smile

...in iclone the only option seems to be neon green planes and a external chromakeyer app or plugin...

You point out "iClone ONLY", but mention using an external app or plugin.
What Good is That?
...iClone ONLY.... remember!

ic 6's lighting is better than ic5, but just look at all of the functionality missing.... that mimick real world lighting.
iClone 6 default lighting is an Indie toy compared to real world lighting tools.
I use "Pro Tools" to help iClone out. You can use whatever you wish.
