We currently have no way to create a grin or clenched teeth with the lips apart using the face key or puppet. visible teeth are pretty common for expressions, so that might be a nice addition of a few morphs that would be standard in iClone.

i agree this should be possible, but a workaround isn't hard.

Thanks budbundy! How did you do it?

selected only the teeth (upper and lower)using cntl +select tool in 3dx and exported the mesh via the replace mesh section
re-imported, converted, brought into iclone attach/positioned to head and resized. it took less than 5 minutes.

there is another method i found that doesnt require any exporting,
but i think it's beyond the amount of work most here are willing to do.

AGREED! Along with a grin, we need cheek expansion and contraction, lip tuck and controls all around the mouth and brows. As another member pointed out it's why the great looking CC characters have facial animation that resembles wood / plastic puppets

I hope RL puts a little focus on facial animation in the next couple builds, it seems facial animation has become after thought in recent releases while many other 3D animation programs are focusing on it.

Reallusion has made it extremely EZ to create morphs.
The IC6 characters morph modifier has a wide variety of morphsWow... unlike G5 morphs.

...This took only 5 seconds to do.... Imagine if one spent longer.

Reallusion has made it extremely EZ to create morphs.....into 3DXchange, yes. sure.
BUT
RL has made it SUPER TEDIOUS to bring in custom morphs into iClone, onto the timeline, or as reusable presets into the library.

As to morphing a mouth to grin or hiss in "5 seconds"
Sure, most external tool users could do that fast enough...

But why would you need to make that morph outside of RL tools with G6?
Why would you need time-wasting import from Max, blender, ZBrush whatever...
for a simple G5/G6/CC grin or hiss?

Or (as others implied here) make that grin inside iClone but with some kind of advanced method?

I could do that inside iClone in 3 seconds... Cool
(Even then I find that process unnecessarily clicky, inefficient, and amature)
Anyway
So I waited for other big time gurus here to offer the solution...
Yet...all we get is the usual "how to mow the lawn with a military tank". w00t

I don't blame people though...
A hissy grin is a very basic facial expression...
The fact that some of the most resourceful veterans couldn't tease that grin out of CC/ G6....
is a testament to iClone's horrid face expression morph loading process than these users' skills...

It is just embarassing, if new arrivals come here expecting lively facial expressions...
Just to find...
Oops, can't even make my girl say cheeeeese? Need to go Blender and jump through how many hoops?
What kind of character animation tool is this?

Verdict: IClone needs to radically overhaul custom facial morph loading process.

Yes it would be nice to have this in iClones face puppet without having to do workarounds

But oh well...where there is a will there is always a way

Reallusion really needs to add "Progressive Morphing" to iClone.Crying
(ISOLATE THE RIG)
now simply blend the specific lips bones needed to perform proper phonemes!Wow

With this functionality you can easily see how rampa's request for simple lips and teeth placement would become SIMPLEWink

I agree, we need, urgently...
  • Progressive Morphing
  • Lip bones exposed within iClone (with its own lip key track)
  • Lip, Cheek, Eyes, Brow, Chin, Ear, Tongue, all get their own key track
  • (or at the very least, their own motion CLIP track!)
  • And high time to let Avatar Toolkit controls all of the above!
But this belongs in its own HUGE wish list...which I will get to at some point...

I'm just saying - a 2nd time in this topic...
Rampa's specific grin/ grimace request can already be done within iClone on G5/G6/CC, since iClone5!
No need for 360 seconds IClone WORKAROUND.
No need for 720 seconds round trip 3DXchange to fetch custom imported morphs.
Certainly no need for 3600 seconds round trip to Max, Blender or ZBrush!
Hello, it's just character showing teeth!

Each of these grin/ grimace variation are done 100% in iClone.
The entire select morph, set param, animate, record, anywhere from 60 seconds to 240 seconds.
which is UNNECESSARY TIME-WASTING to me - or any animators spoiled by Daz Studio, Carrara, Poser workflow!
(so much for "chitty" prosumer tools vs Very Amazing Fast EZ iClone!) Wink

And that is why I'm not rushing out to give "how to make grin" tips...
I want RL to see how poorly they have implemented their facial expression workflow.
Why help RL stall progress and allow iClone to lag so far behind its peers in facial animation?
Novice or "pro tool" animators couldn't find the most basic essential face animation to make grins - because the tool sets are
1. BURIED TOO DEEP
2. ANIT-INTUITIVE MORPHING PROCESS
iClone's entire morph i/o, morph preseting, morph setup, morph access, head or body
is the most ridiculously redundancy-laden workflow I've experienced.

I want RL to seriously overhaul the entire Face Puppet - Face Expression - Vertex animation process
Not because I don't know how to use iClone to get useful face expressions.
But because iClone needs to rise to the challenge of becoming a true REALTIME CHARACTER animation tool
that cares about face animation efficiency as much as the neck down body part animation speed.
