One of the things I miss about the older iClone was the director mode, whereby you could take control of your iAvatar and walk them through a scene and perform certain animations by pressing a hotkey.

With all the nifty features in iClone 6, it would be pretty awesome, if you could take control of your avatar and run it through your set, layering more detailed animations, such as facial animations etc on top of the "base" performance later.

Imagine if you could define your world physics, pre configure a set of animations for your character, and then trigger them by hotkeys. A fight sequence, for example would be infinitely easier to do this way... imagine if you integrated physics into this as well - it would be a combination of playing a game and making a movie...

Thanks for the feedback. Director mode was a great feature but unfortunately little used from our experience which is why it was dropped for iClone 6. Certainly if there was enough demand for it then it could return in a future version. Smile

I would love to see this back also. At the very least it would be helpful for getting a feel for scene.

With some enhanced animation tree features for motion blending, it would be slightly more attractive. In general, movie making is poorly suited to game-type controls.

On the other hand, iC5 still works great, and you create your animatics there.

I cannot believe there is NO means to turn off camera recording for purposes like zooming in to tweak minor pose attributes, it is a pain in the butt to continually remove unwanted camera animation, when several different aspects are required to both see and align varying bits..

Most iClone users, me included, had no use for "director mode". I still don't need it and probably never will.

Director IMO mode was responsible for some really crappy iClone movies seeing as it encouraged lazy animation (which is not the same as high productivity).

I think what the OP is asking for is scripting or macro based automation.

That is not the same as " director mode" as we know it.

Heck I didn't even notice that director mode was discontinued.

Noob Question - how to use ICar without director mode?

A solution with a tut can be found here for anyone interested:
