I like it very much. Love that movie.
About 30 years ago I made a board game about movie making. In it the player could pick from an assortment of "Book" cards which they could then make into a movie. One of the books was a sci-fi story called "The Day the Earth Almost...But Not Quite...Stood Still".The story was a bit different as this one was the story about a group of extraterrestrial teenage aliens who, while on spring break in a hopped up flying saucer, decide to play a prank on the planet earth.
Anyway I love and support what your doing here. If I might make a suggestion. Check your ambient lighting setting, I'm assuming by the 'tone' of your shots that it is set to the default grey color. You might try setting it to black. I find that it adds a visual richness to my scenes, but that could just be me.

Edit: Oh, and on the crowd scenes, work in 'quick shading' or even in 'smooth shading' to speed things up, I've been playing with green screening a small crowd and then layering it over other similar shots in my video editor to create a battle scene. Still in the testing phase tho.
