One of the workarounds i been doing for characterization is just to make multiple versions of the same head. A better approach would be if CTA would allow for multiple layers of expressiveness.
For example the mouth sprites: there are 30 of them per angle. But they are all the base generic ones.
I know this might sound like a lot more work to many folks but its really only something more geared for the pros, what if we could have a couple extra layers in there. Leave layer 1 for the neutral mouths the way they are now... but maybe add a second layer for another set of 30 that are basically the same mouths but Happy, or or third layer for Sad, or Angry, or Loud etc. It would make the template process a bit more streamlined rather than having to create complete new heads for every emotion.
When a character says something, its not just a matter of moving their mouths they also have to express emotions. Right now this is very limited and could use some improvement.
