So the graph says xbox means less features and Kinect v2, I assume is the Xbox One model, will be the next compatible Kinect sensor. But will it mean that it will also have less features? I investigated its possible shortcomings.
About "Near Mode" The new sensors depth range is 50cm to 8meters, where reliable Body tracking is .5 to 4.5 meters. Because of the new depth range capabilities, there isn't a "near mode" required. What does it mean for iClone users that's another story.

About detecting head turns, According to this YouTube video head turning is detected but will iClone register it is also another story.

I'm thinking of getting it now even if there are no plugin for v2 for iClone yet. I can simply use a 3d party app that exports the mocap into .FBX files and pass it through 3DX. also, I'll need windows 10 hmm, just in time as 7 won't do.

As far as commercial user rights, how can Reallusion sell the xbox SDK for commercial profit but animations using it cannot? Or am I not getting the legalese of that situation?

Hi Dragonskunk, thanks for posting this.
Until I saw the video in your post and went to the Brekel website I thought that the future belonged to Perception Neuron but the Kinect2 results look to be very good.
I've never tried motion capture but had the impression that the first Kinect version for iclone wasn't too successful.  It may be a risk for you to invest in the hardware and software without knowing what support Reallusion is planning.  (I'm a bit out of touch - it may be that there are plans I haven't been aware of for Kinect2).
Reallusion are demonstrating Perception Neuron used with Iclone at SIGGRAPH soon.
The Brekel website allows you to download test files in various formats: .fbx, etc.
I use Poser and Carrara as well as Iclone, so I will be interested in any further developments.
Sorry I can't help with the legal question.

Tbh with a kinect based mocap workflow there's nothing better than Ipisoft.
All plugins based on microsofts kinect sdk has nearly unusable output aside from flailing your arms and idle mocap. That includes iclone's plugin, lightwave nevron plugin, brekel, etc. They're all based on the ms kinect sdk.
The number one problem is occlusion. You really can't get good mocap out of 1 kinect. You need atleast 2 kinects.
If your arms or legs cross any other part of your body or you turn your body around, a single kinect will go berserk because it can't see where your limbs went.
If the new microsoft sdk still doesn't allow multiple kinects to scan a single actor then it will have the same issue.
A two or three kinect system like Ipisoft surrounds a mocap actor and produces usable mocap even if the actor turns around.

Thanks Hattori
I was wondering about Kinect if you try to do something like a Michael Jackson type spin which I never seen done which is probably not doable for that reason.
I checked http://ipisoft.com/ and they do export in FBX so it does look promising.

Since none of the Kinect for Windos is to be found in my country and ordering from Amazon.com is way too pricy. And anything Xbox getting all hobby only no businessly.
Order Summary
Items:     $501.94
Shipping & handling:     $299.54
Total before tax:     $801.48
Estimated tax to be collected:*     $0.00
Order total:     $801.48

So instead is to use multiple webcams this looks more doable and available and seems more versatile. 4 Sony PS3 Eye camera is only 75$ but the Ipisoft software itself is not cheap.

I think this is the only way forwards.
https://forum.reallusion.com/245473/MoCaps-only-valid-system-Perception-Nueron-If-youre-talking-MoCap-these-are-the-only-words-that-mean-ANYTHING

Nothing else seems to cope with fine movement like fingers and face. Not thats affordable anyway.
Cameras are NOT the way forwards.
I would like to see Reallusion adapt iClone to work with Perception Neuron and Im sure theya lready know ALL about it.

I just dont see this camera thing working.

If your tight bodied in a movement that hides the lower arms against and behind the other one....... nothing will find it OR the position of the fingers.
Its like this camera technology is running up a greased hillside. It'll never get there.

We don't sell the Microsoft Kinect SDK. We sell the Mocap Device Plugin which is built using the Kinect SDK. Microsoft makes the SDK available free to developers to build their own apps.

Hi RL

One quick question.

What happened with the August date for Mocap Plugin for Kinect V.2.  On the website it was mentioned plugin will come in August now it says only 2015.

Do we have any news on this.

Thanks.
Eris

I am having trouble with installing my Kinect V-1 for win. I made a support ticket and also asked for any info on the new motion system. I saw the Siggraph video and wow, so nice. Well, All I got in reply was how to do what I stated that I had already done exactly. Hu? Yea that is intelligent, hu? Mind boggling isn't it?

Also, Not one word on the new motion system. Nada. Totally Ignored me. Thanks RL.

SO, is there anyone here that can assist me with my MS Kinect win problem?
I downloaded the mocap kinect plugin win file and I chose the Windows driver plugin file (at the bottom of the page) (Both files were exactly the same) and as I try to install all I  get is an error, no drivers found. I did try to update the driver but it/they can not be located on my com or found on the net.

Also, both of the kinect win download files are the same one. Whaaat?
I tried the one file I had and it will not install the drivers even when I plugin the Kinect. ERROR ERROR ERROR
It should say "WELCOME TO THE TWILIGHT ZONE" LOL

Anyone? Can someone please send me the correct files?

I will be so glad when the new system comes out!!!!! Doh :\
Thanks

There are currently two Kinect models that are supported. Kinect For Xbox 360 sensors will have XBOX 360 on the front, while Kinect For Windows v1 sensors will have KINECT on the front.
Each one requires its own version of the Mocap Device Plugin.
There are currently two versions of the Mocap Device Plugin available. You should install only the one that applies to your version of the Kinect sensor and operating system.

These are:

Microsoft Kinect SDK Beta2
(Newer, For Kinect For Xbox devices and Windows 7 or 8)
download link in your account

Microsoft Kinect SDK For Windows (v1.2)
(For Kinect For Windows devices and Windows 7 or 8)
download link in your account

Each file above contains everything you need. You should not install any other drivers, SDK's or software. Y
So if you are using a Kinect For Xbox 360 sensor with Windows 7 or 8, then you would need to install ONLY the Microsoft Kinect SDK Beta2 version of the plugin.

I would pay twice as much as RL would ask for if the new plugin allowed the use of 2 Xbox One simultaneously capturing.
Or at least offer it as an additional level of pro plugin.

For me that would bring iClone as the leader for affordable and quality motion capture.
This would bring many amateurs and even pros to flock to iClone for their CG project solutions.
