There are a couple of things that will really help you get the kinfs of motion control you need.

Firstly, use the locks in the edit motion layer. The little graphic has the quick lock buttons for the hands and feet, but you can lock and unlock translation and rotation of any bone at any time. This'll keep a hand in place on a table while the avatar shifts about, for instance.

Secondly, reach targets will allow one avatar to keep there hands on another. Create dummies that attach to key locations on the avatar, and then have the other one reach for those targets. There are reach targets for the hands, feet, hips and chest.
